I'm off tonite too, but I have two gigs tomorrow...
It's nice and cool here, around 60 degress. I'm thinking I'm gonna chop some wood, grab a twelve pack for me, and a bottle of wine for the missus, and build a nice fire out back after the kids go to bed. Jake www.myspace.com/gsharper

After about 10 years of consistent gigging (solo gigs 3-4 times a week), I've decided to at least temporarily cut back and I love it. I'm working on aspects of music that aren't necessarily related to my solo act, and planning what I want to do next.

Tell me about it. A few years ago it was unusual not to be working three, maybe four or even five gigs a week. Then it became two. Then one, but at least you could generally rely on a Saturday night job. I used to get withdrawal symptoms if a weekend passed by without a gig. But now the scene, in my part of the UK anyway, has deteriorated to the point where I consider myself lucky to get more than a couple of gigs a month. There are many reasons why but knowing what they are doesn't help. It isn't freedom, it's unemployment.

my wife is due with our 2nd child today! we're just sitting around waiting. can't get too far away from home!. i have a gig tomorrow night that's not too far away. if nothing has happened by then my wife may attend. loud music can help shake things loose! anyway, i have a friend who is standing in for me or with me either way.
but tonight we're waiting....waitng....waiting.......

That's a drag, Tony, sorry to bring you down ... I guess it depends on what you want from your music - for me it's just a hobby that I love, and I only gig on the weekends pretty much, but it's nice to have an evening off, too.
Toadman, good luck!! Rock on! mud

At any rate, no twin guitar induced labor occurred that night; matter of fact the kid went ten days past due. The boy is now 14 and is a huge music fanatic... I like to think that night helped Good health to Mom and the new one on the way... |

All the same, I can see your point about having an occasional evening off but that presupposes that you have masses of work to begin with. Meanwhile, my congratulations and best wishes to Toadman too... This may just make you smile - on the night before my son was due to be born in 1985, my wife was at home and I was waiting for the phone call to come and get her to the hospital while I was gigging at...Watford Labour Club.

It's a real chore to gig here in northern Idaho....not many clubs and all the neo ****s and cowboys want to sing drunk Karaoke...
it's a sad deal actually. All the kids want DJ's at the schools. Live music is hard to come by in small places like here.Cheers ce24
