Ebay losing it's charm for me, to say the least

I have been an ebay member for many years, but have only sold a few things. Nevertheless, I have never received a negative feedback (although, strangely, my feedback rating is something like 99.8%, not 100%).

Imagine my surprise today, then, when I tried to sell my gibson moderne and first year 52 RI, I was informed I HAD to use pay pal, AND that any payments made via pay pal would be 'held' - due to my apparent unsavoury character - for 21 days. Presumably, the buyer would get my guitar in a few days, though! Wow. How could I refuse?

I believe that I shall be looking elsewhere to sell my guitars!

I don't know how Ebay thinks they are going to be able to get ANYONE to be willing to let them hold their money for 21 days....not me! I've had some great luck selling higher-end guitars through boards like the TDPRI, TGP, etc....

Good luck!

eBay is getting on my nerves too!

Bought a NOS Custom Shop Broadcaster body out of the USA a couple of days ago.
The Aussie dollar has been sitting around 94 cents U.S. for the last 2 weeks and yet when the conversion rate is applied on my purchase, The transaction is still sitting on 91 cents U.S.!

That may seem like a small thing to go on about, but this has happened with every purchase I've made internationally. Those cents add up over time!
I've just about had enough of eBay.

This new policy only adds to my disatisfaction!

21 days.....OR until you have delivery signature confirmation.....OR until you get positive buyer feedback. It's not applied to all sellers, only low volume sellers or those items that have shown to be more prone to fraud. It's an effort to curb scams.

I knew the paypal only was coming sooner or later way back when ebay bought paypal. Holding peoples money like that makes a nice "float" for 21 days, probably have it in a 7-14-or 21 day interest earning account. Lots of bux to be made from that. ebay jumped the shark 2 or 3 years ago with the fee increase.

As mentioned, it's only 21 days if you choose not to use delivery confirmation, and even then only in certain instances.

Another relatively unknown option is to use their money market fund as your "holding" area. When you do that, you get any interest made on the float, rather than Paypal making it.

I'm a relative newbie when comes to ebay but i'm over it also. As RichardWitt
says, the exchange rate thing is ridiculous and the whole paypal deal just grates on me also.

I've recently started to sell some stuff and have found that the number of morons out there who have nothing better to do than to waste your time is on a parity with the genuine buyers.

I hear this a lot. I hear guys who say the other party just won't disengage; the shopping process makes these folks' life complete and once the transaction is over, emptiness. And so increasingly you cannot just get the deal over, they wanna bond with you or something.

I guess I like to chew the fat sometimes with some parts suppliers I buy from regularly. I suppose it is just human nature but I agree about the wasted time.

I just found this out too. Wow. I've been using ebay occasionally for 9 years. I've only got 75 feedbacks (all positive), so I guess I'm just a nuisance to them. I just recently started using paypal, I'm sort of glad I did, although I don't know if I want to continue selling on ebay. This is just another shaft that ebay is giving the small sellers.
