Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contest May 18!
Here's a link to the Topanga Banjo-Fiddle Contest & Folk festival:
http://www.topangabanjofiddle.org/ My 13 yo son & I will be at the Pavilian stage in the morning & will compete with beginners. This will be our 2nd time having missed last year with a broken arm. This a great event with guitars, jamming, and singing all over the ranch. Paramount ranch was used as the set for many western movies and still has the facade of an old western town... Mark you calender now! :) PK

This post made me feel really old. I went to the TBFC in 1985, I think. My buddy and I each entered the intermediate contests, me on guitar and him on banjo. We backed each other up on guitar. He played "Dear Old Dixie" and I played "Beaumont Rag". Neither of us won anything. But I did get to meet Billy Ray Latham, the banjo player for the Kentucky Colonels. He had a crowd around him, mostly guitar players asking him about Clarence White (like me).
