What do you open up with?

Curious to see what tunes everybody starts a gig with. Do you change it up? Stay with something tried & true? Hmmmmm?

We used to open with "Secret Agent". Lately it's been "Knock on Wood" or "Hold On I'm Coming".

My Pop/Rock/Blues band opens with Gretchen Wilsons "Here For The Party". It's a pretty raunchy tune but very fun and our gal nails it.

Locomotive Breath by Tull, totally heavy though as much distortion as possible. That was awhile back though, maybe 4 years.

Depends on the gig. Sometimes folks are still eating dinner for the first half hour that we're playing, so we open with mellow stuff like "Moondance", and gradually get a little harder. If folks are supposed to be dancing from the first song, we'll start with something like "Mony Mony".

"Old Man Down The Road" has been the opener for a few gigs now, if it's a 3 set night. If we're doing 1 set (45 min-1hr or so) it's "Misrlou", complete with dialogue-from-"Pulp Fiction" intro

We play restaurants and bars, so we don't need to come out guns blazing (as prev mentioned, folks still eating & talking) ... we sneak in with Pipeline or Sleepwalk.

The last band playing pubs was Thin Lizzy's "Don't Believe a Word" - now with a female singer and playing more corporate gigs it's Cliff Richards "Do You Wanna Dance" - sad I know.

Typically it's "Blue Thunder", an instrumental by the bluesman Sonny Rhodes. Our other choice is a bit different, Frank Zappa's "Apostrophe." Go figure ...

Usually Draggin' the Bow, or if we want a lower key start Night in Old Amarillo. Then usually Bubbles in my Beer as the first vocal.

usually........

Usually open up with "Fun, Fun, Fun" by The Beach Boys - generally sets the tone for the whole evening. Good times, good people, good rock.

"Let the Good Times Roll," "T-Bone Shuffle," "Hideaway"... or, if we're in friendly territory, an original 16-bar number called "Papa Just Got Paid" (not to be confused with the ZZTop tune). One of those, usually.

Mmm, Hideaway, love that one! Hey, Drew, where do you guys play? I live in Beaumont, but don't mind driving.

Road House Blues by the Doors or Little Sister by Elvis. Other stuff sometimes but those two always seem to get peoples attention.

Used to be "Folsom Prison Blues" (and "Get Rhythm" for the second set), but we're currently working on CCRs "Hey Tonight" (with 4-part harmony vocals), and maybe a medley starting with "Wipe Out" for the second set.
