BTW, I'd buy one of these new ones, if they hadn't moved the Tailpiece closer to the bridge. Looks stupid, IMO. That's okay, I just reserved a White Blonde/Gold pickguard thinskin Jazzmaster today!

I wonder if Fender makes those changes (moving the trem) just to single out the MIM Jazz/Jags to drive those that care crazy enough to get a AVRI.
What's the reason for such a change?

Increases break angle over the saddles. That should help sustain and combat strings jumping off of saddles. Looks like it changes the break angle to almost the same as a buzz-stop would. I'd be happier to see grooved barrel saddles on it. That should be an easy mod as long as the stud spacing is the same. Since I won't even be getting any of these until at least June (maybe with a nice used Roland Jazz Chorus amp) the Elvis Costello sig is still the frontrunner.

Shame they had to change the design of them, I'd be in the market for a Jazzmaster if it was a "reissue", more like the MIM classic strats and teles.
I do like the flatter 'board radius. |
