MIM Jazzmasters and Jags!

$800-850, MIM, changed the bridge/trem

The changes are pretty radical. I think I'll wait to hear more about them before I decide whether or not to put my pennies toward an AVRI or Thin Skin.

Where did you hear this? I've been waiting for these for a good while.

Saw it on offsetguitars.com - Musician's Friend apparently has them in stock, too.

I've been saving my pennies for an AVRI or Thin Skin Jazzmaster... but one of these is mighty tempting.

NM, I just saw it at Musician's Friend. No mention of it on Fender.com. Surprising since I would have expected some actual promotion for something like this...

I checked it out...MF has them. Finally!!! I've been complaining that Fender should do this for a long time. Why did it have to happen right after I buy a Thinline? I'll have to wait a while but it's good to know they're out there.

Looking at it now. Trem looks like it's moved further from the tail. I'll be calling Guitar Center in the morning to see if they're carrying them.

Wow. I'll wait a little while to see how they are, then maybe I'll have to pounce on one of the Jazzmasters! Looks like it has a tune-o-matic bridge?

Not exactly. They're more or less Fender's version of the P90 with a slightly different design.

They are nothing like a P-90. Jazzmaster pickups are standard single coils, with very wide bobbins and shallow depth.

BTW, I'd buy one of these new ones, if they hadn't moved the Tailpiece closer to the bridge. Looks stupid, IMO.

That's okay, I just reserved a White Blonde/Gold pickguard thinskin Jazzmaster today!

I wonder if Fender makes those changes (moving the trem) just to single out the MIM Jazz/Jags to drive those that care crazy enough to get a AVRI.

What's the reason for such a change?

P90s have bar magnets and most have adjustable pole-pieces. Jazzmaster pole-pieces are the magnets.

I wanna see close ups of the bridge! Maybe this is what you get when they stop exporting Fender Japan. I hope the bridge is an upgrade, because even if it's set up right it's still not great. I got rid of my old jag purely because of the bridge.

Is this a limited GC-only run? I can't find word one about it from Fender.

Increases break angle over the saddles. That should help sustain and combat strings jumping off of saddles. Looks like it changes the break angle to almost the same as a buzz-stop would. I'd be happier to see grooved barrel saddles on it. That should be an easy mod as long as the stud spacing is the same. Since I won't even be getting any of these until at least June (maybe with a nice used Roland Jazz Chorus amp) the Elvis Costello sig is still the frontrunner.

Shame they had to change the design of them, I'd be in the market for a Jazzmaster if it was a "reissue", more like the MIM classic strats and teles.

I do like the flatter 'board radius.
