I still think they look interesting, although I am not as familiar with the guitar to determine if the 'upgrades' are actually benefits. Can someone post a pic of a new one and an old one to explain the differences? Or, is it fair to say that the bridge on the Jazzmaster is the same but the trem is in a different position? Ok, off to Google images.........

I was just at my local, and they had them in stock. I didn't have a chance to plug one in, but I plunked on two of the Jags and a JM, and they felt good. A bit different from what I'm used to with the off-sets, since the bridge sits all the way down, but they looked very usable.

i tried one out at GC yesterday, and it played, and sounded very much like a strat. the pickups are probably akin to the "repackaged strat PU's" that were in the MIJ and CIJ's. the neck was thinner than a vintage jazzmaster i played, but the frets were bigger. it was strung with .09's so they felt almost rubberband-ish in my hands (i use .11's) but the action was fantastic and the trem held tune very well. the price is still a bit steep for what is essentially a stylized strat i think, but i would seriously consider buying one.
