Clapton Gets a Guitar Lesson !
Ran across this on youtube - the look on Clapton's face after Carl's first solo says it all - priceless !
Carl pours it on for young Eric's benefit -

Kind of looks to me like he was just digging on the fact that he was on stage playing with one of his heros. Very Cool Vid.

I know this isn't a competition but I think Johnny Cash did the best vocally. Clapton's guitar and voice were buried in the mix.
Despite that, great video.

Great video. And THAT'S why, the two times the Johnny Cash Show came to the Indiana State Fair in the 1970's, I went: To see Carl Perkins (and Maybelle Carter and the Carter Sisters). Cash was great. But Carl...man oh man! He was the show as far as I was concerned.

They all just looked like they were having fun. Clapton has always had that bashful/confused look on his face (a la Garcia), but I don't think it was about Carl. I just think that's Clapton's face.

That was fun to watch.
What kind of guitar was Carl playing? I looked like some weird imitation of a Rickenbacker, with a supremely funky headstock.

man, that clip is great.
I've always loved Carl Perkins.. he was tearin' it up with a Microfrets guitar, BTW! you can tell Clapton was having a total I'm not worthy!! moment but I figure he did all right although Carl Perkins certainly smoked EC this time for sures! ol' Clappers never had a chance, actually.

Y'know Carl had a whole different set of licks back when he started in the 50's. That looks to be what late 60's early 70's maybe. Point is - both EC and Carl's solo's ooze Chuck Berry. They both are great in thier own rights but you can tell they definitely picked up a thing or two from 'ol Chuck!! Definitely not complaining - I sound more like CB than i do anyone else I suppose. He's one of my biggest influences. Maybe thats why I spotted it so easily.
That is definitely one of the greatest videos Ive ever seen with 3 of my heroes on the same stage. EDIT: OK on second listen--Clapton definitely had the Chuck Berry thing goin. Carl not so much. ..I'll shut up and drink my beer.....

Do you really think anyone was interested in smoking the other ? I didn't see any judges cards . It was just a jam , and i'm fairly sure Clapton just played what fitted the occasion . They both played very straight forward , if not simple rock & roll , and in that type of song , simplicity is the winner
