Miami Dolphins Linebacker Jason Taylor- unhappy?

Report: Visit to Dolphins' HQ widens Taylor-Parcells rift
ESPN.com news services

Updated: April 29, 2008, 7:17 PM ET

Taylor Dances To The Monday Night Football Theme The NFL draft passed without the Miami Dolphins trading Jason Taylor, but that doesn't mean all is well with the team's star defensive player and new football czar Bill Parcells.

Taylor recently became incensed with Parcells during a recent visit to team headquarters, according to the Miami Herald. Taylor popped in on the Dolphins' executive vice president while he was watching tape, but the newspaper said Parcells ignored Taylor without speaking a word to him.

Taylor was taking a break from "Dancing With the Stars" when he stopped in to visit Dolphins players in South Florida. According to the Herald, after receiving a warm reception from his teammates, Taylor decided to seek out Parcells.

But according to the Herald, Parcells had no interest in talking to Taylor. Parcells even looked at Taylor, the newspaper reported, before going back to watching tape.

Through his dancing, Taylor has become a network TV star this offseason, but Parcells is unhappy his best player has been focused on a budding Hollywood career rather than being back in Florida working out with teammates.

According to the Herald, Parcells and Taylor have barely spoken to one another this offseason.

Taylor was the subject of trade speculation throughout the weekend. But when the NFL draft ended Sunday, general manager Jeff Ireland denied the Dolphins were eager to part with Taylor.

"We want the guy back," Ireland said.

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said his team pursued a deal with Miami, but the Dolphins took Taylor off the trading block.

"We talked," Del Rio said. "They had a certain price in mind, and nobody in the league was interested in that price. They like the player, and they're going to keep him. There's nothing wrong with that."

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers denied rumors they were close to acquiring the six-time Pro Bowl defensive end.

Signals from the Dolphins have been decidedly mixed. On Saturday, owner Wayne Huizenga said the team was open to trading Taylor. Miami drafted two defensive ends as potential replacements -- Clemson's Phillip Merling in the second round, and Hampton's Kendall Langford in the third round.

But when asked about a pledge last month by Parcells that Taylor wouldn't be traded, Ireland said, "Nothing has changed."

Taylor had 11 sacks last season to increase his career total to 117, third among active players. He made the Pro Bowl and was chosen NFL Man of the Year.

"Dancing With the Stars" could keep Taylor in California until May 20. He has said he wants to remain with the Dolphins, but at age 33, he also likes the idea of being traded to a contending team.

When asked about the new regime's relationship with Taylor, Ireland said: "Hopefully it's pretty good."

Hope they trade him to the NY Jets!

I'm a Dolphins fan...it's not easy. I think Taylor needs to go, and I think it should have happened on draft day. He could lead the league in sacks this year and we still wouldn't make the playoffs. It's time to rebuild.

Parcells is a jerk, always has been a jerk, always will be a jerk.

Taylor is getting one hell of a workout, doing DWTS, it's probably helping him a whole lot more than hurting him, particularly with flexibility and agility.

Cheers, Tim

Taylor was on Jay Leno last week. He said most of the NFL is supportive of his dancing, except for a few "old school guys." Wonder who?

Call me crazy but I don't think it's smart for Parcells to mess around with Jason Taylor.

Kinda like shooting yourself in the foot. It's offseason, Bill. Get your head outta your ___!

As a lifelong Dolphins fan, I have to agree with you, Chet (even though I know you're a Jets fan ). Jason Taylor is still one of the best defensive ends in the league, in my opinion, and I would like to see Parcells acknowledge this and keep #99 on the roster this coming season.

However, if JT is traded, I'd at least like to see him: 1. Traded for an equally talented player in a sorely needed position--a healthy running back, a CB opposite Will Allen, one more guard (scuttlebutt says the 'Fins might trade for the Rams' third-round pick, Toledo OT Joe Greco, and move him to guard), among others; and/or 2. Traded to a contender--no one can deny that #99 deserves a Super Bowl ring.

As for the Dolphins' draft, I thought Parcells and Ireland did well--certainly better than Randy Mueller and Cam Cameron did last year.

I hear ya, Tim.

Do any of the old-timers like me remember when Ed "Too-Tall" Jones of the Dallas Cowboys took a year off to pursue a boxing career? Which was a bust...

But, he when he came back his footwork and agility were greatly improved?
