So my dad calls me tonight and leaves a message, saying he's got big news. I call him back and he tells me that he's won the early bird draw for the local hospital lottery. The prize: a brand new Mercedes and $25,000.

This is the second car he's won in the last five years. The first time it was a Pontiac Grand Am.

Maybe I should start buying lottery tickets. Do you think that kind of luck is hereditary, or does it skip a generation?

Well, some folks walk through the proverbial busy street in a stupor, never being hit by that proverbial dump truck. Maybe winners are just born that way.
