But I think you've posted in the wrong section.

Not that great (assuming it has fullsized humbuckers). Minibuckers sound OK and P90s the best.

I've got the burstbucker pro's on the cheapy faded Les paul. They sound good when overdriven with my pedals(Keely Blues driver, FD2), but I am not as fond of them clean. I prefer my Tele through that amp.

Les Pauls sound great through a DR if you change the speaker to tighten up the low end. If you don't, low notes on the rhythm pickup just fart out.

I have to add that I have a different speaker than the original, new tubes, vibrato channel modded on my DRRI...

Yeah, humbuckers don't have that great clean sound, but I love them for OD sounds.

I agree a Deluxe reverb with a JBL works great.

I play a Strat and LP thru a stock DRRI. The sound out of the amp when playing the LP is exactly the sound I expect from an LP.

Les Pauls sound about as good thru a Deluxe as they do thru anthing else.

Now a Tele thru a Deluxe... that's something...

"Rhythm pickup"? What is that?

DRs are killer amps and take pedals well I think. A good LP into a DR is one of my favorite tones when it's cranked up.

Humbuckers have very little clean headroom through a DR, make sure you back down the volume on the LP bigtime..........Gibbie humbuckers are extremely powerful.......nuclear like!

Hey, when you get to be my age, you suddenly realize that all the money is made below the 12th fret, and on the rhythm/neck pickup.

use the volume knob on the LP to help tame the 'bucker.... add an OD the help fill in the blanks, if needed

I second that emotion, even though my 335 is a Tokai and my DR is a Reissue.

My DRRI gets dirty on the 5 with the LP. That's very loud!

I think you should try a ES-335 guitar too. It has the power of the humbuckers but the sweetness of the semi-hollow body. If I could go back I'll probably get a 335 instead of the LP.

If your Les Paul doesn't sound good through a clean, bright amp (like a DR), then it's your fault.

Les Paul + Deluxe Reverb + wire = tone to make the most bored barfly sit up and take notice.

Both explicit and implicit.

I've been playing guitar for 23 of my 35 years. I've had a chance to play through just about every common amp that you can name. I've owned several variations of Deluxe Reverbs (including a stock BF, a stock SF and a modern RI).

Plus, I've played through [probably] several dozen Deluxes that were "house backline" at various gigs over the years.... many of which had been modified in various ways (including speaker changes).

I've hated them all. Never had one good experience with any of them, at stage/gig volume.

Most of them sound fine at clean settings, at low volumes. But you can get a lot of amps that do that. Every one that I've ever cranked up to gigging levels has a horrible sounding bottom end. And I own Les Pauls, 335s, Strats and Teles, and more boosting/OD pedals that I can even remember.

I'm not disputing that other people get great tone out of them. I've heard it. I've even had the opportunity to pickup someone's guitar and play through their Deluxe set up....which had sounded great, just prior to me playing through it.

I used to try plugging my BF Deluxe into an old Marshall 4x12 cabinet which sounded absolutely heavenly with my BF Bassman. But it always sounded farty.

I conclude that it has to do with my technique of pick attack with my left hand. I used large strings, a huge thick pick, and hit the strings very hard, even with delicate musical passages. It's just a very powerful technique (literally) that I've inadvertantly developed over the years.

Now-a-days, I steer clear of all Deluxes. Period.

I feel ya. My DR is a Reissue also and my 335 is an Epiphone. It still works.
