Ummm ... maybe everything should just stay in the swim. This is a jinxed recovery area. No helicopters lifts. No, no, no.

A friend sent those to me seems like about a year or 2 ago. He claimed it happened in Ireland. The interesting thing is how close people seem to be to the first crane before it goes in, but no one seems to have been hurt.

But even after the first one goes in the bay, several people seem to have a need to stand between #2 and the seawall! Not very safety minded, this group.

Paul - From the Urban Legends page.....

Note: It's the last photo that has been doctored.

Compare photos 5 and 9 and you'll see the deception.

Crane 1 True, crane 2 nope....Sorry

Very funny, BUT...the last photo is a photoshop fake. They used the 5th picture you posted (where the first crane fell in). All the people and backgrounds boats match perfectly. They also used the first crane reckage and as the base of the "new" crane reckage.

In the first pics you can see the outrigger is extended and planted firmly on solid pavement. It didn't just tip over. How could a vertical pick cause sideforce enough to drag the crane over the side?

I will never understand this.... Why pee on someone elses campfire? Does it make a person feel better about themselves or something???
Who was this hurting????
It's like telling the ending to a movie that nobody has seen.

humbug or no, it's the human comedy in action, and Pete's video sort of puts it in perspective.

I see it a bit different. When I think of all the "forwarded" emails I have gotten in the past that were not quite true from both friends and family, I learned a long time ago to check 'em out at Snopes. Having done the same thing myself before, I am grateful to someone for having pointed me to a location where I can look it up. Not here to pee on any campfires - as you can see there are additional posts about these photos and their complete authenticity.

Snopes makes great reading - and with that tool I feel more confident when I recieve an email with a claim - I go see what I can find.

I don't see an outrigger...

In my Statics class a year ago, the professor used this as his first example on the first day.
