Les Paul equivalent of TDPRI

I ALWAYS talk Teles, so don't sue me here! I recently got what seems to be a 1989 Gibson '59 reissue Les Paul...Very Nice Guitar and all, but I need to work out exactly what it is and what I might put it on the wall in the store for...Can anyone let me know the forum that might be able to let me know all I need to...Is there an OLFuzzy that talks Les Pauls somewhere?
Thanks

Wouldn't the guys in the Les Paul forum be sitting around in their silk shirts, Linen Slacks, and Gucci Loafers, typing on a Mac while sipping on a glass of Chablis?

probably sitting around in their underware sniffing corks and discussing just how period correct is that piece on a historic compared to a "REAL" LP.

I'm a longtime member of the Les Paul Forum. Good site at times, clearly a ton of great info, but IMHO, it is pretty elitist and there are more non-players there (or so it seems) than players and a lot of guys that buy into the internet hype-of-the-day to the point of silliness. I lost interest in that site years ago and went back when I got back into LPs and it hadn't improved. The Mylespaul site http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/is MUCH better I think. Real players, pickup makers, knowledgeable collectors, etc without the attitudes.

Of course, I've been coming here since the original TDP site in 1996-it was the first site I ever registered on and guess where I go daily. I've also been a member of the Hamerfanclub http://www.hamerfanclub.com since late 1996. Great guys and THE ONLY website to go for Hamer info (there are some cheap imitators out there). People here and there are what keeps me coming back.

There's some great guys on the LPF but the people who run it kicked me out cause I didn't renew my photo hosting membership in time. They also sent me a couple of e-mails taunting me about not being able to log in anymore.

I'd stay away.

There is some good info. at the LPF, but you do have to hassle them (Lilly Pat?) to approve your registration. There are some issues with politeness and general social skills from time to time. It does not compare to the tdpri.

There are a couple of guys on the LPF that I sense have a very good knowledge of Les Pauls. They tend to be knowledgable like O.F. about the LP. I would seek out:

J45
Wilko

They are straight shooters, but they don't seem to be too arogant.

The sites I would have suggested have already been mentioned.
However, there is no equivalent to TDPRI so don't get yer hopes up.

I'm sure there is much more to it than that.

I don't find it elitist at all - but I stay away from the Vintage area.

Just FYI, Elliot E posts there too... and he doesn't strike me as the type that would put up with too much crap.

You know, I don't get this? I have seen on several posts where people apologize for discussing a guitar that isn't a tele. Nobody, NOBODY here is that controlling. I have hung around this forum for a while and I have never heard anyone denigrated for their guitar selection. On the contrary, people here are MORE than willing to discuss anything with 6 strings. In addition, the quality of experience and knowledge that members here share is priceless.
I know you were just joshing terry, but I just think when it comes to tolerance and ease of topic introduction, this site is the BOMB.

Ask Jimmy Murray, Stumbler or Rays44. They're all great people.

Chet, I think he's referring to the fact that your refusal to renew a photo hosting subscription to the LilyPix service has NOTHING to do with your ability to post on the FORUM...it keeps you from logging back on to LilyPix, but your membership in the LPF Forum is FREE...I've been a member there for a few years and I don't pay squat.

Check it out..probably a misunderstanding.

That's OK, Geddins. Les Pauls & Gibsons in general cost too much for me anyway. I already have my Les Paul.

Definitely the LPF, things get out of hand occasionally, usually having to do with:

PAFs
Ebay
The Confederate Flag
Relicing

Stay away from bad threads and it's a great place!

From what I've seen, it's a lot easier to get chucked off the TDPRI than it is the LPF. If you have survived here, I can't imagine you being banned from the LPF. If your handle is the same there as here, it looks like you're still a member.

Another site where the people know some about Gibsons (but maybe not the LP in general) is Bluestalk, although, it too is down right now,

No, but I've seen lots of posts that rip into their guitars: Les Pauls, Strats and PRS to name a few. I've even seen American Standards compared to a toilet because they share the same name as a plumbing fixture company. On an internet guitar forum people identify themselves with their guitars, so when you put down their axes you are in a way putting them down.

As for the Les Paul equivalent of the TDPRI: there is none. This place has no equal!

No Mac disparaging allowed! Once you go Mac, you never go back.
