NFL Draft. How did your team do?
So, whose watched the draft? How did your team do?
I root for a lot of teams, but I'm a Redskins fan first and foremost. The Skins had 10 picks this year and I think did a pretty good job, though I would have liked to have seen them focus more on the lines. For the Redskins, who never seem to have picks, this draft was an "A". But by regular standards I'll give them a "B". How bout you! Any steals, potential busts for your team? |

Not too bad I guess. I'm a Steelers fan. But I think they should have gone for a couple good OL's first. They need someone to help protect Ben instead of getting planted like he did last season.

Panthers guy here ... they got the RB they wanted (Jon Stewart), but i hope he doesn't have durability issues. we went through that with Dan Morgan!
then they spent the rent to move up for OT Jeff Otah ... two late-round picks plus (gulp) next year's first-round choice. coach John Fox and GM Marty Hurney are desperate to "win now" with their antiquated smashmouth style, or they'll be gone after next season ... i would've traded next year's first-rounder for a coach who doesn't call a draw play on third and long!

Bengals fan here. I was ticked when the Patriots traded down in the first rd w/ the Saints and they grabbed Ellis...I was hoping that Cincinnati would draft him. Rivers is a solid pick though. We picked up two WRs and 4 other defensive players...grade : C+

I had totally forgotten about the NFL
Since I joined this forum, and the CanadaGuitars forum, and the Ultimate Guitar Forum, and the Squier '51 Modder's forum, and the Agile Guitar forum...why, come to think of it, I have not read the sports news in over a month!
But I sure am learning a lot about guitars! |

I'm a Browns fan, so the draft was pretty much a non-event. It's pretty hard to get excited when they don't pick until the 4th round. I trust Phil Savage to get a few of good players out of the late rounds. They did need a corner and didn't get one.

i neglected to grade the Panthers, but i'd give 'em a B- to C+, depending on how some of the long shots pan out ... they drafted a guard and a linebacker when they're loaded at both positions. of course, the linebacker is that rough boy from Penn State -- i expect he'll be able to play some ball.

Luckily, Dallas doesn't have many holes to fill. They picked up a couple good speed backs who can also do returns and a couple of potentially good corners (in addition to Pacman), so they filled their needs. That's what they think they need to take the next step and win a few playoff games. Based on last season, that's a good bet. But I'm always worried if they don't pick up any linemen- that means they'd better win right now and nobody can get hurt. We'll see. If everyone continues to perform at the same level as last year, Felix Jones breaks a few long ones, they find a shutdown corner to play opposite Terrence Newman (their current shutdown corner), and their pass rush continues to develop while the secondary pick off a few more passes, then the league had better look out. Overall, a B+.

re: nfl draft
i have to start this by saying that i was born and raised in southern ohio and have been a bengals fan since they started - i have been living on the gulf coast since the late 70's ( has it been that long ?) and have taken to the saints - yea you got it, bengals in the afc and saints in the nfc - can i choose 'em or what ! i believe its way to early to evaluate anyones draft for a year or two but i do like the way both teams drafted to shore up obivous weaknesses - both teams seem to have a knack for finding late round gems (tj whosyourmama for the bengals and m colston for the saints - both were 7th rounders) - biggest thing i got out of this draft was the message the bengals sent to ocho stinko - please don't start in about trading the guy - he would have cost the team over 8 mil in salary cap - no sense in drafting additional 1st and 2nd rounders if you cant put enough money on the table to sign them - as it was the bengals had 10 draft picks - now next year might be a different story -

Been a Bills fan my whole life...born in Buffalo and have loved them through the good and bad years. But I never watch the draft. Half the time the players picked don't make it through training camp or don't start. I have worked for the Bills Training Camp the last 2 years. I get all my information directly from the team itself. I get to watch the players and I talk with some of the coaches regarding certain players. Sometimes guys I think are doing good the coaches aren't too happy with...and vice-versa. I even get to see some of the walk-on's try out which is pretty cool. I generally work security around the locker room or the field. I also talk to some of the interns since they also know a lot of what's going on.

hows about trade dan snyder for mike brown (bengals owner) ?
these guys are polar opposites - brown is old school cheap and only cares about revenue, winning is an afterthought - snyder has deep pockets and spends freely and often mistakenly - frustrating isn't it - - i'm not a complete idiot ... some parts are missing - |

They also have agreed to terms with 13 undrafted free agents, including four offensive linemen, two defensive lineman and two linebackers. I think the Skins did great. I especially love the punter pick (which had all the "we need linemen" crowd throwing up). Do a google search for "Durant Brooks". That kid is a freak and could impact field position in a big way. Of course, time will tell. You can't always judge a player by the round he's taken in. Wasn't Tom Brady like a 10th round pick? |

Consensus is that the Vikings had a good draft - although they did most of their work prior to the draft. I think they only had five selections in the whole thing, and each of the selections has potential. The key to the draft was trading picks for Jared Allen - he should make the D-line one of the best.
I think this is a good way for the Vikes to go - stay away from depending on the draft to fill holes in your team. Dean

Chad Pennington: Marshall, round 1, Jets (still with NY) Giovanni Carmazzi: Hofstra, round 3, 49ers (beat out by Tim Rattay, went to NFL Europe and the Canadian Football League) Chris Redman: Louisville, round 3, Ravens (plagued by injures, at last check he was with the Falcons) Tee Martin: Tennessee, round 5, Steelers (also played for the Raiders, and spent some time in NFL Europe and CFL) Marc Bulger: West Virginia, round 6, Saints (didn't stick with the Saints, ended up signing with the Rams, where he has been a Pro Bowl selection) Spergon Wynn: SW Texas State, round 6, Browns (one season in Cleveland, two with the Vikings, then it was off to Canada where he has played for 3 different teams since '03) then Brady from Michigan....overall pick 199

I'm a Raiders fan.
they took McFadden and 4 guys i've never heard of. McFadden is very good, and he ran hog-wild over my alma mater (South Carolina) in the SEC, so i'm glad to see him leave the college ranks. he should be an impact player...hope he can cure his fumble troubles. they probably should've picked Dorsey...but we'll see what happens. the Raiders already have a bunch of decent running backs. maybe they'll trade one or two for some defensive help.

Not a bad idea - but we could sweeten the pot and throw in Vinnie Cerato too! But give them credit this year - at least the ended up with more draft choices and not less!

I watch more college football than NFL, and being from Arkansas I'm a Hawgs fan. Considering McFadden and Jones both went first round I think we did alright, but of course my team did lose its two best players...man my glass is always half empty.

The Bears have had a pressing need for a quarterback for years now, and that's about the only position they didn't draft. Still, Orton's a good young QB and has potential, so maybe they don't need a new rookie QB.

Texans did good, not great, just good. Yahoo gave them a B, and I agree...no game breakers in this bunch.
They were looking for a specific type of OT to fit the zone blocking scheme. They were able to trade down to get the one they wanted. With that additional 3rd round pick, they got a Heisman runner up RB to put some pressure on the guys that have been letting us down in the running game. They drafted for "need" and they got what they needed. Although I did not see the need for a QB in the 7th round, and they could have picked up a DE or a LB which could have made the roster.

Al Davis drafted another Olympic 880 relay team of sprinters - whether they have football skills remains to be seen. McFadden looks like the real deal but he fumbles a lot. Kreskin says, 6 - 10, with luck 7 and 9.
Yes, of course, as a Raiders fan I know as long as Al runs the team they will stink.
