Deleting Limewire

Last year I told my kids no more Limewire, and went on the straight & narrow buying songs at iTunes. Back then I used the Windows XP Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs to get rid of it, and it showed as removed, that folder was gone. I was surprised yesterday when in My Computer/Program Files to see a LimeWire Folder with the program still there! I went back to Add/Remove Programs to remove it, and a LimeWire folder did not show up there. WTF?

I'm afraid to just try deleting that LimeWire folder under My Computer/Program Files, since I've heard that's not the way to get rid of programs, and it can cause more problems. Whats the best way to get rid of it? Since then, I also installed Cyberpatrol filtering software, so I can block child access to LimeWire altogether, I just need to get it and all remnants off my machine.

Good luck. Windows will leave stuff all over. You could dig around for all the dlls, but you could end up doing more harm then good.

If it were me, I'd just delete that directory with the executable and any other specific Limeware directories I could find and leave it at that.

For things like this I use things like these:

CCleaner (formerly crap cleaner)

Easy Cleaner

There are others, too, but these are the ones I use most.

I second that emotion. My guess is that the executable (program) itself was deleted by Windows, but that the files remaining in the directory are just preference settings - I see this a lot with programs I delete.

I like using TweakNow PowerPack to clean my registry - I've never had a problem with it. You can download a demo/shareware version for free (I think it's a 15 day trial).

Smae thing here. After reading a few threads about downloading music and the ethics behind it, I decided it was Napster 99 cent downloads for me or BUY the CD.

Not to mention all the songs are QUALITY. It's all over the place with limewire.

I still get Terms and Condition every time I re-boot. And I deleted the program long ago.

And I deleted most of the tunes I downloaded from it to.

Apparently even after you've uninstalled a program you will be left with remnants in your registery and bits and pieces here and there.

Here's a link to a very good and free download I use daily. It's totally safe and works well at getting rid of those little bits and pieces. And I see they have a new version for download!! I better update mine.

Someone also mentiond CCleaner. It works well also but is a little more advanced I would say than the above program in that it has a lot more user defined parameters for you to play with.

Good luck.
