Johnny Hiland...any news ?

Anyone heard anything about him recently ? I used to read quite a lot about him over here but since the untimely bereavement I have heard nothing.
I hope he is okay.

Looks like monthly gigs in Nashville:
http://www.johnnyhiland.com/schedule.htm

Still trying to adjust to the promo shot of him with the PRS!

He's Still pickin'

There's an article on him in the latest Vintage Guitar. He talks (among other things) about how versatile that PRS is.
(Never played one meself so I got no opinion)

I read that article too. He also says he uses a Peavey amp. I think maybe endorsements could play a factor (?).

Due to his blindness it was his mother that posted here about Johnny. But, now that she's gone no one else has picked up that mantle.

I feel bad for him. He's lost both of his parents in the last few years. I hope his marriage is going great, as he'll have someone to lean on.

Seems like a super nice guy. I hope he's okay.

Paul Reed Smith necks and Paul's use of the 25" scale is the greatest thing since sliced bread...

Paul's pickups... not so much...

Very versatile guitars... in the right hands... :)

News on JH

Hello all! This is Johnny's wife, Kim. Sorry for not keeping you all updated on Johnny's career....you are so right...Grace did that and it's still hard to believe that she is gone. What a wonderful woman!

Johnny is doing well considering that it has been a mighty ruff year for all of the family. He has not been on the road a great deal, due to slower touring schedules and the fact that he has been in the studio a lot producing on other people's projects. Producing is another passion of Johnny's and he truly enjoys it, but it doesn't take the place of getting to tour and share his music with people. He will be doing the Dallas Guitar Festival in April and then there are several things coming up for the spring and summer. NAMM will be in Nashville this year, so it will be good to have him home..haha! Hope to see some of you all there! He also, has a new cd out that can be ordered via his website www.johnnyhilandband.com. It's $20 plus shipping, but it includes a band pic and a behind the scenes dvd.

As far as the PRS and Peavey endorsements, well, what can I say? Johnny would not EVER play or endorse something that he did not 100% support. There have been many comments about Johnny switching to PRS, but I can tell you that he loves his signature model and loves the folks at PRS. This is not slamming in any way Fender. Play what you like....what is best for you. I can also tell you that money has NOTHING to do with his decisions to endorse any product. Just for those who don't know, you generally don't make a heck of a lot of money endorsing anything. Peavey is indeed going to make a Johnny Hiland Signature amplifier. Johnny has been working very hard with Peavey on proto types to get that exact sound he wants. They have been really great to work with and Johnny has a lot of support there.

Well, enough rambling....just wanted to give you a little heads up on what's been going on with Johnny. I will try my best to do better. The last time I tried to post anything about Johnny (on another site) I was told that it was advertising and I couldn't do so, so I'm a little gun shy of posting anything. However, I truly appreciate those of you who have kind words to say about Johnny and are interested in what he is doing. I don't post a lot, but I read this forum almost on a daily basis. He is a dear, gentle soul and guitar playing aside is probably one of the finest men anyone could ever meet.
Thanks again and I will post anytime anyone has a question about Johnny...(that I can answer)...heheh.

ps....to whomever that asked about his marriage..well...we are doing great! It will be three years on April 2 and I couldn't be happier! HE IS THE BEST!

Pass on our best wishes to Johnny and congratulations on your wedding anniversary.

My wife and I will be celebrating 24-years this year and we're planning to visit Vegas next year to get our vows reconfirmed by "Elvis"!

Yee haw!

Hello, Kim and thanks for the comprehensive update. Nice to hear things are going well on the professional side.
I imagine things must be tough with Grace's passing but I wish you and Johnny all the best, and Happy 3rd Anniversary Wednesday.
Please stop by and see us as often as you can and hey, I'm a multiple Peavey amps owner as well so I understand it is a quality product and look forward to some clips on Johnny's new model.

Best wishes,

Howdy Maybery! Nice that you filled in the gaps.

I read that Johnny will be in Dallas again in a few weeks in attendance of the Dallas Guitar Festival. He was awesome last year. So awesome, I nearly gave up playing guitar. I'll try to introduce myself to Johnny if I get a chance (as if he would even care).

Kim, thanks so much for filling us in! In a way, it was like reading a post from Johnny's mom, who we sure miss around here! Don't be a stranger, and do tell Johnny we're glad to hear he's doing well...

Cheers, Tim

Kim,
Is Johnny Going to be down east this year?
Caught him, and the former band, and family at "My Favourite Things" in Calais, last year, a real treat.
I heard rumours of the American Folk Festival in Bangor Aug 22-24.

PRS should tour him through Eastern Canada through "Music Stop" ( Now owned by Long and Mcquade) exposure is good.

Yes, Telefeller, it looks like Johnny will be doing the American Folk Festival. I'm not sure of the particulars of his schedule for the show, but he will be there unless something gets changed. Glad to hear you got to go to the "My Favorite Things" show last year...we had a ball. Carl Royer and his family have been great to us and we just love their store. As a matter of fact, they will be here in Nashville next week and we are hoping to catch up with them one night. Take care! Kim

Personally I've never cared what a person endorses. All I care about is how good a musician he or she is. Johnny can play a Wal-Mart First Act and he'd probably sound pretty much the same.

As most of you know, i play keys/backup guitar for him.
we played NAMM in LA this year, and we just got back from playing the dallas guitar show.

We have some big stuff comming up this summer. Summer namm, some prs stuff, possibly Norway/sweeden, theres talk of Sturgis (bike rally)....its gonna be great.

For those who arent aware, we cut a BRAND NEW ALBUM that went on sale over christmas. Its KILLER good, and includes johnny, myself, mike hill(bass) and cody leppo(drums), along with vince gill, ricky skaggs, and steve wariner.

You can get it at : www.johnnyhilandband.com

I think our next road date is a couple of weeks from now up at Sweetwater sound in indiana for a PRS clinic.

take care,

most of it works. I think the gear/photos pages arent being used right now...other than that it works.
I think all the gig info from john's myspace page will be moved there soon as well in its own section. Im also thinking about doing my own section of photos that ive taken on the road.....kinda like a fun "behind the scene" kinda thing.
Right now, if you buy a cd, they have these cool DVD's that go with it where they made a documentary of us playing all the sessions that went into the making of the new album. Theres a great part where im playing an old nintendo in between takes...hilarity ensues.

Thanks Kim, it kind of shocked me to read a reply from you, didn't expect that.
Good to hear he is doing well and that you are both happy. Next question...when are you coming to Scotland ?
