MF Stupid Deal - $49.00 Gretsch Americana Acoustic
Mods....If I shouldn't be posting this, please delete with my apology.
The MF Stupid Deal of the Day is one of the Gretsch Americana Series Cowboy guitars for $49.00. You may have seen the 3/4 scale guitars decorated with cowboy graphics.....kind of like the Martin Felix guitars (funky fetish guitar in a smaller scale). $49.00 and $5.95 shipping. I bought one. I may give it to my son or just stick it in the woodpile as an odd noodling guitar. They still have a bunch of them....I had to share this. For what it's worth. John

Ha! this is totally fine by me! I saw this today and since I already had a showdown (a christmas present) I jumped all over it! what a deal! I'm playing my showdown right now... and my son and I are excited to be getting this one... I told him I'd buy the others too if they show up!

Well, it is not gonna threaten the high end market! The graphics are terrific! The box it comes in is the coolest. it plays in tune, it sounds okay and it is small (which is fun for easy chair strumming... my 11 year old loves it...
If you ever had an old stella parlor guitar and fixed the action... it sounds a little better than that... which is cool. Here is the showdown recorded from my comfy chair to my laptop microphone!

getbent,
Could you do me a favor and measure the length of your Americana? Gator makes a really nice 3/4 bag; you can buy them on ebay for about $18.00 + shipping. I bought one of the Gator bags for my daughter's 3/4 Jay Turser. They are really nice bags. I want to order one for the Gretsch but I cannot find the Gretsch length on on the Gretsch website. Thanks very much, John

Yeah. I should have got one. I was feeling guilty about buying it because I just bought my first tele. I bet the extra guilt would have been worth it. But then again they have the Wild West Sweethearts guitar on sale and I need that one too.
Where does it end? |

However, I haven't received any follow-up e-mails from MF yet so I'm wondering if they're "out of stock." we shall see. |

I came across that yesterday a.m. and couldn't pass up the deal. Ya can't argue with the price that's for sure. It'll be fun to have just to plink around on and from most accounts I've read they actually do sound & play surprisingly well.

I was looking at prices figuring i was either going to get a Fender or Marshall. I bought the H&K without knowing anything about it because the price was right. I figure if it sucks, I'll know a little bit about what not to get next time.

I have one of the 15-watt multieffects H&K practice amps (the $69 one) and it's built as well as any and sounds better than most of the similar amps I looked at when I first got my Telecaster. I had it listed for sale here in the Classifieds for what I thought was a pretty good price of $75 but MF beats that for a brand new one now. Wow.

Well, the H&K 30-DFX did arrive today. I played around with it for only about fifteen-twenty minutes so here is my quick impression:
Sometimes the reviewers on Harmony Central are dead on. With a single-coil guitar, the Clean channel sounded pretty sweet. Perfectly fine for my level of playing. With a humbucker guitar the Clean had a little too much booming bottom for my taste. On the Lead/Gain channel … uh … well, the word “yuck” comes to mind. I’m not sure what the proper sound-engineer expression is for what the Gain channel sounds like. Instead of a crunch or gritty sound that is usually associated with a good solid blues distortion and sustain, it’s, instead, sort of a throbbing – buzzing noise. Sorry, that’s the best description I can think of right now. Anyone out there know what I mean? I have to say, even though I hardly spent much on it, I’m very disappointed. I was hoping I was going to get rid of one of my bigger amps and one of my smaller ones and let this become an “in betweener.” If nothing else, makes me appreciate even more the sound of those solid state amps that get that sound much closer. Uh, Fender for instance comes to mind. Oh well. |

Today it's either an LP100 or an SG with amp, gig bag and accessories. $199 |

The MF Stupid Dealios have been tempting lately. I guess the jury is still out on those Palo Escritos. That seemed pretty good. Almost snagged a Gretsch too.
I, for one, am really pleased with the Reverse Headstock Strat that I snagged about a month ago. That's a great guitar. A lot of guys here seem to swoon over the J. Vaughan Strat and I think the Reverse has similar attributes, albiet with vintage 60's pups rather than Tex/Mex, and a similar deficiency; the lame-o, single ply, white pick guard. Still, a great deal. I'm a big fan of the Epiphone Valve Jr. Combo. I suppose the Epi SG that comes with it today would be kind'a fun. Not sold on today's deal though. |

I'm kinda sitting back waiting for the bloom to come off the Palo Escrito's. I played one at guitar showcase or guitar center and I know I want one... I just want to wait for the one that no one wants... then mine will be cooler than Skully's... just because I say so! ha ha!

Same here. Ordered on Sun and mine arrived today. I got in on the Gretsch deal though. I gotta say I'm quite surprised at how nice it plays and sounds. Heck, for half a bill its more than good enough. Lotsa fun too.
