''It's too loud daddy! It's too loud!''
My response was turning it up another notch. Kids... youth is wasted on the young.
(The Mrs. left for the market for a few minutes so I decided to crank my Strat. One day jr. will understand... if he knows what's good for him!)

Hearing is a precious thing. Once lost never to return. Maybe it's something to consider when the very young are around an amp and they are at ear level?
I know I am as guilty as sin playing as loud as I have all these years. But I can understand why a child would complain. Maybe a set of ear plugs would make them feel better about Dad's Marshall stack. |

Well, I do take heed in what Arlo and Stephen posted. First and foremost, we need to remember that.
this being said, there is something ironic about your 7 year old yelling down from the top of the basement stairs "Dad!!! turn it down will you. I can't hear what I'm thinking to myself." This happened to me about 10 years ago when my now nearly 17 yr old son was a little tyke. (And yes, he was way upstairs in the safety zone, well away from damaging volume). He also ratted me out once after coming downstairs, turning around and shouting at my wife "Mom. Dad has a new amp and it's the size of Texas!!" (recenty purchased '59 Bassman RI that I thought I had snuck through security). No wonder why my late mother always referred to him as "Pop's Revenge" in memory of what I put my old man through!! |

Max is 17 months now, and looks to be on pace for Mom's prediction. He likes it loud but we keep it safe. He just learned when to clap and stomp in "If You're Happy and You Know It" |

Young kids that havent been exposed to alot of loud noises have very sensetive ears. Wait till they are about 12-14 then tit wont bother them as much until then just use headphones.

Yeah, exactly right! You don't want to be a dumb@$$ when your little boogers are in the same room as your amp! I roll the volume way back when my 3 year-old daughter comes in to dance.

My two girls (5 and 7yrs old) think everything is too loud......unless its Hannah Montana. Then I think its too loud. Must be a personal perception thing.

It's ironic how you can reach a certain point in your life where your kids yell exactly what your parents yelled at you. Life's a funny ol' thing, innit?

Musics too loud, and the food's too spicy for my kids. /shrug
I'm sure most of us wouldn't play anything at a volume that would damage young one's ears - but this is a good reminder. |

I have a roommate. So yeah. But when everyone was coming back from winter break, my bass playing friend and I threw open our doors, cranked up our dinky 15W SS amps, and played the "Smoke on the Water" riff continuously for about half an hour.
