New Southpark Episodes... thoughts?

Has anyone seen the two new southpark episodes? Is it just me or have they moved from shockingly funny to just shocking?

Last week it was Cartman injecting kyle with aids... and this week it was Brittany Spears blowing the top of her head off with a shotgun and then still walking around alive somehow.

I get the message they were trying to get across with both episodes. well, more so with this week than the first episode. But showing someone blowing there head off with a shotgun... and then walking around with no brain but still alive and moaning. It was just disturbing. I think they need to bring it back down a couple notches.

I never thought I would be saying this. I'm just as desensitized as any other 25 yr-old, but come on.

Thoughts?

Yea, I just do not think it's been funny lately. South Park always has the tendency to go "preachy," but they've really been overdoing it. The over the top antics and humor was usually what allowed you to overlook the preaching. When it's not funny...

That show has gone through good and bad streaks.

I taped the Britney thing they showed tonight, but haven't seen it yet. Didn't know they'd started a new season, and haven't seen last week's.

It'd be nice if they'd just stop making it if it's getting out of hand. They've lost some major voices, like Chef, and Mrs. Crabtree, so it might be time to hang it up. The Simpsons should have quit 3 or 4 years ago, and it's not even worth watching anymore now. Flies buzzin' round their eyes! (thanks Bob)

The farther out they get, the better I like it.

I laughed my ass off.

I tend to like the more provocative and stranger episodes better as well.. 'Scott Tenorman Must Die', 'Country Critters Xmas', the Paris Hilton episode, the Scientology episode, ect. They don't always bat a 1000% but appreciate what they're doing.

They have been trying to get kicked off the air for the past 2-3 years but they said the more twisted they get the more the ratings go up.

Its a Cartoon nothing they do bothers me.

I like SP alot still to me not as funny as Beavis and Butthead but really good.

Preachy sometimes, perhaps. I think that they put a mirror up to society to show us how small minded we can be and we need to see that. They don't take sides most of the time and rip on everyone. The new shows just keep raising the bar. Kind of like the "regular" shows do. Take the lie detector show for example. There's a show that is embarrassing to even watch. To see people drag themselves through the mud for the chump change they throw to them is disgusting to me. Or watch any news channel in this country. The news readers add modifiers to every sentence to add their opinion or add "excitement". Television news reads like the New York Post. SouthPark just reflects us.

I thought last nights episode was a bit weird, but in the end, I still laughed a bit. There are some episodes of South Park I enjoy watching over and over again, and then there are some that I just watch and sort of forget, then get reminded about it either through the syndicated episodes or during a Comedy Central South Park marathon. I think while this episode was okay, its not one of the ones where "I would stop what I am doing cause its on" kind of epsisode...

Ok. I saw my tape of the show by now. A lot of it was funny. I think they wanted it to be shocking, but I was sort of warned that she was going to blow the top of her head off, so that lost a lot of impact.

South Park shows have pretty much always had a serious message behind them, and the kids have always had a better moral compass than the adults.

So really, nothing's changed.

I agree with the basic message of the show. But this isn't what I'd call one of their better shows.

South Park has exchanged its shocking humor for shock value, and they are getting way to high on themselves trying to be way too preachy.
Still a South Park Fan though, they still have their hillarious moments, especially for a sick person like me who enjoys the darker side of humor.
The N-word episode was hillarious, but the episode where they were jerking the dog off... I could have done without that.

I thought the britney episode was disturbing because it was so poignant and accurate. The thoughts on human sacrifice were perfect, and the portrayal of the people taking advantage of britney was way too real. they actually seemed to defend britney which i thought was nice for a change. They are doing as good a social commentary as we've seen.

Whats funny about this reply to me is you used a famous Beavis and Butthead quote when talking about Southpark when you said Southpark RULES. B&B changed the way we speak they started it sucks Metallica Rules and all kinds of sayings people young and old say everyday.

I've been loving it the whole time. I was kinda disturbed at the scene in "Night of the Living Homeless" when the guy's wife was still alive, but was so badly burned her lips were gone. The more tasteless the show gets, the more accurate its commentary seems to me. I saw the hybrid car episode the other night. There was a concentrated cloud of smug coming from Hollywood caused by George Clooney's Oscar acceptance speech.

Yes, that was intentional.

I agree that B&B was one of the most influential/well-known pop culture icons ever, but I don't think it was close to being as funny as Southpark. But that's just personal preference...

The thing is, if there were no Beavis & Butthead and The Simpsons, there would be no South Park....

The best South Parks for me were the Mr. Hanky ones.
