R&R HOF inductions last night

I only saw about half of them but I saw the ones I wanted to..... The Ventures, John Mellencamp, Dave Clark 5.
All were good but I have to really hand it to Tom Hanks.
He did the induction speech for DC% and it was by far the best induction speech I ever heard. Tom knows his stuff!
Ventures played pretty well, Mellencamp kicked some ass, and it was nice to hear the DC% stuff again even if they didn't perform. The stand-ins did just OK.

I am really glad Madonna was inducted because when I think rock and roll, I think; Madonna!

I'm glad she was inducted since it confirms what a joke the whole thing is.
(I agree with the Sex Pistols about the RRHOF.)

Agreed in full! I also don't get the order of induction, seems like some entire decades are skipped in favor of 80's artists. It shows a lot about who is voting on the members. The whole arena/classic rock period is woefully under-represented.

LOUUUUUU!

I totally want a pair of flip-up/flip-down granny glasses like Lou Reed has. I'm near-sighted in my left eye, far-sighted in my right, so I could have a great time flipping each lens up and down. Up! Down! Left! Right! Far! Near! Clear! Fuzzy! Could replace intoxicants in my daily routine.

When did Billy Joel become Don Rickles? I swear, he looked (and sounded) like the guy who warms up the audience on a Saturday night at Grossinger's in the Catskills (if this was 1962). Good Randy Newman story though.

Joan Jett just freakin' rules.

The HOF lost me at James Taylor. Outside of the smack habit, what's at all rock and roll about him? It's really a pop music HOF at this point.

Great amount of chat on some of the radio stations, on whether Madonna was RR or not. Concensus was not.

...Marion "Little Walter" Jacobs!!!...

...given his earliest work with Muddy Waters, and then his more successful early part of his solo career, this man blazed a trail on the mouth-harp that people are STILL attempting (and I do mean attempting) to emulate...Walter was the most inspired improvisor the Chicago blues scene ever produced, and thusly why he was so influential...I love the fact he was inducted into the RRHOF...one of my most favorite musicians, and an early inspiration...

I thought it was great. Madonna deserved it as well as anyone else.
I'm glad Mellencamp got the honor too.

I guess because it's not really Rock and Roll anymore.

1) With non-stop hits for over 25 years, Madonna belongs there. Certainly more than some of the folks that are already there.
2) Glad to see Gamble & Huff get their due.
3) Can't decide which I enjoyed more...Tom Hanks induction speech or the Dave Clark 5's acceptance...the most emotional part of the evening to be sure (I was not aware until last night that Denis Payton was gone as well as Mike Smith). Madonna could have used some of Dave Clark's grace and humility.
4) Glad to see the Ventures FINALLY get their rightful place in the HOF.
5) Lou Reed should not be allowed in front of a mike unless he is performing. His speech must have had everyone checking their watches...or falling asleep.

Madonna's speech was boring as hell, but Tom Hanks' speech was even worse. It seemed to go on forever. Leonard Cohen is by far my favorite artist of those inducted this year, but I missed his acceptance speech and Lou Reeds as well. Thank god for Tivo.

Rename it the "Pop Music Hall Of Fame" and then the rockers won't be saying WTF....

Why not induct Vera Lynn and The Irish Rovers on that merit?
