I like DD over Krispy Creme any day of the week. However, all during the 1960s & 70s here in Dallas, the BEST donuts were always Southern Maid. I don't know if there are any Southern Maid still around. But they were always the BEST. Two favorite stops were South Buckner (Pleasant Grove) and North Buckner (Casa Linda Plaza) stores. We also used to have a donut shop on Mockingbird Lane called Lone Star Donuts. We would always joke around with, "I ate some LSD on the way to work.". BTW, I'll take two powered chocolate creme filled from DD - my all time favorite donut. |

There used to be a snack food company called "Ho-Made Snack", like a contraction between "home" and "made". Every time I read "Ho-Made Snack", I always imagined a prostitute wearing an apron baking pies.
I guess that would qualify me to run for governor of NY... |

That's "Dunkin Donuts" innit???
Anyhoo, I met my late wife at the local Dunkin Donuts. She was the manager there, and I was still cohabitating with my oldest son's mom at the time. Yeah there's a story there somewhere. I blame it on the coffee....

For some incomprehensible reason, Dunkin Donuts pulled out of my town a number of years ago, and have never returned.
We do have a local chain, Shipley's Donuts, which is excellent but have very limited hours of business. They don't have as many varieties as Dunkin, nor the soup and sandwich deal. |

My local Dunkin Donuts store dumped the franchise and now goes by "Sesame Donuts". The couple that owns it is originally from Iraq and I guess they just decided to do their own thing. Yes, they do offer a sesame seed covered donut. Those guys are a hoot. Someone came in and ordered a dozen French Crullers and the owner yelled out, "That's Freedom Crullers!".

Around these parts (Canada), Tim Horton's totally stomped on Dunkin about 15 years ago and now they're relegated mostly to small booths in malls or in towns at a ratio of 1 DD for 10 TimH.
Tim's was around for a long time but their donuts were "dustnuts" then suddenly someone caught on and the were "tasty" (more sugar & grease). Kristy Kreme opened to HUGE hoopla then the atkins/health craze hit and now at least in Quebec they are usually empty. Damn, now I want a doughnut (KK) or donut(TH). If Duncan made Donuts, would "Duncan Antiquities" refer to day old donuts?

Back around 1973 or so, my housemate used to make the donuts for a local restaurant. He'd get up about 4:00 AM to go there - brutal. We knew all the cops in town, because they'd all come around the back door early every day for free coffee and donuts provided by my friend. Sounds just like the old cliche, doesn't it? The bonus for us was that we could come home at any time of night from the bars, in any condition, and not have to worry too much. Those free donuts bought us a lot of looking the other way.

I'd love for a Dunkin' to open up here. We have a pretty good donut shop here. It's a Daylite Donuts franchise and they have good stuff, but not as much variety as Dunkin'. They did run Krispy Kreme out of town, though. Well, Krispy Kreme was stupid enough to lease the most expensive piece of real estate in South Dakota, so that's probably what did 'em in...
Anyone remember Supdnuts? They made their donuts with potato flour. They were the absolute best donuts I've ever had in my life. Sadly, I don't think they are anywhere anymore. |

Always has been the best in Little Rock for high glucose munchies |

yes...new cabinet and a good going over by an amp tech steve at jacksonville guitar recommened. still squeels a bit if i flip the standby before the tubes get warmed up a bit but when it warms up...i love the tone.
people talk about how a twin is too much amp and unnecessary but i play this thing against my d-lux frequently and compare the two. the tweed is very touch sensitive and can go from clean to dirty with just pick attack. the twin is clean creamy smooth and has a full thick tone even at low levels that the tweed just can't touch. if i honestly had to pick just one amp...it would be the twin in a heartbeat. it sounds incredibly good at low levels even though the tubes aren't being pushed at all. i can easily see recording with this at low level. just glad i don't have to cart the thing around. |
