Snow?

Snowing in Texas and the south but we haven't had much all winter (Jersey Shore). This next storm will just give us rain once again.

Works for me.

I've noticed that almost every week I see that line of white on the Weather Channel maps around Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Rochestor and Buffalo.

It's gotten cold a couple of times here but other than that it's been pretty mild here.

Yeah right, east of Quebec city, the road crews are chopping off the tops of the snowbanks on the side of the road because when the kids climb on them they can touch the power lines.
A friend's dad lives around there, when he shovels his roof and gets at the bottom, he has to "lift" his shovel, cant just push it down the roof anymore.
As for me, 4 feet of snow in the backyard, 8+ feet high snowbanks. Gonna post pictures after the next storm, yes they are forecasting another foot of white crap

Rochester hasn't been too bad this year...we had our share of the frigid cold and bad wind at times. But the snow hasn't been too bad. However there is an ice storm warning for this evening to tomorrow morning.

I love winter but I'm ready for summer. We have a cottage on the property that we call the "summer house" because we practically live in it during the summer. This is an older picture. The fence in the foreground is 3' high and right now you would have to dig down through the snow to find the top of it. The latest report is calling for mixed precip changing to snow for a total of 6-8" this weekend.

Hopefully we'll get through mud season quickly and get back to this:

This photo was taken a few years ago when a major storm buried the Trans Labrador Highway between Labrador city and Goose Bay. So It can always be worse!! (Photo by Michael Mcgregor)

I'm in the far NE part of Texas, and here's how our weather week has been:

Mon - Tornadoes (thankfully nothing very strong and only minor damages)
Tues- about an inch of snow
Wed - Sunny and 70
Thur - cloudy, in the 40's with rain late
Fri - started snowing like rip about 6am and we have about 2" on the ground (roads still fine, just slushy).

Tomorrow I'll be on the lookout for that monkey riding a dog.....I figger we've seen just 'bout everything else this week.....

Usually starts snowing in late September and stops in early May; I'm use to it and kinda like winter except for the couple weeks of minus 60 we always get. I'm still riding snowmachine on good hard trails, fine by me.

You know I see all the beautiful images of Alaska in both winter and summer and I am just dying to visit! I could do without the short days and long nights but I'll bet it is beautiful up there!

Actually, I like fishing ay 2 am in summer with sun beating down on ya too, so put up with the winters. If ya ever do a trip, plan it out way before. Too many people just drive the road system and take a few picts here and there. Got to hike in above treeline, walk out several miles on a glacier, or do a canoe or boat trip on river; see the place. WE have a shortage of roads here.

I like the weather just like it is now. Cold enough that it keeps the inside temp comfortable. I don't turn the furnace on very much. I like it cool so I can wear my cowboy boots around the house without sweating. My boots fit like a glove and are comfortable.

The downside is that I don't like to jog when it's cold out so I get fatter.

I just went out to get my mail and a DVD I ordered arrived...Goo Goo Dolls Live In Alaska. I saw this a few times on one of the High Definition channels and loved it. The scenery is beautiful. They did all acoustic on glaciers, with some of the locals in a small pup/restaurant, just stunning. I can't wait to watch it again!

Where I live we had like two or three days of snow this winter. I mean, snow falling; it never lasted on the ground for longer than a day.
And we had like a week of mild frost, between -5 and -10 degrees celcius.

I was in Switzerland last week, and they told me that the Zürich area already had temperatures around 20 degrees celcius. In Grindelwald, winter sports area, there were patches of snow here and there.

It's been a lousy winter here. For different reasons than some others...

I was thinking of taking a ski trip to Austria, Switzerland and Germany next year. Hope it snows enough then.

Toronto's really getting dumped on this year. We've had more snow than the year the Mayor called out the army to dig us out. We're gonna get buried again this weekend -- already started. No army in sight... I'm on my third shovel for the season. But I'm on my way to the left coast in about 10 days.

I'm sorry but I lived in Toronto for 5 years and people there panic. This is not directed at you Blues Hurler but the city itself. I mean I live in Sarnia and we get more snow than TO does and we've never called out the National guard or the army. I mean they went into shear panic there. Mind you in all fairness, you guys have lots of hwy and lots of traffic but still....

That was just the Mayor at the time. He was a bit of a spaz. Liked to make a big splash, but like many places, people do forget how to drive in the snow, and refuse to use winter tires. Every time it snows, we get literally hundreds of accidents around the city, most on "3 season" tires. Personally, I've never had a problem getting around. The news people down here always make it sound like the end of the world too, like it's not supposed to snow in Ontario in the winter? When I was a kid, you could walk across 5 foot fences into your neighbours yard because the snow was so deep.

Actually, I have a little Toronto (I do love Toronto) story. One time there was a winter storm and I lived at Queen's and Broadview area. I had to take the DVP to work, which was 15 min. door to door. Well, I had to be at work by 7:00 am, so me and my small town brain, thought I'd leave at 6:00 am and I'd be fine. I left at 6:00 am and got to work at 10:30 am!!! Can you believe it. Queen Street to DVP to Eglington (Scarborough Lexus Toyota). I'm sure they thought I was lying at work but it literally took 4 1/2 hours to go 15 min. I still don't believe it to this day. By the way, nice to meet you Blues Hurler. Another crazy Torontonian!!!

Ha! Back at ya. I've got plenty of those stories. Been here all my life. My plan is retire, move to the left coast, play guitar, hike, fish, and drive a convertible all year round! I'm kinda tired of T.O.

I'm with you on that. I have to say that I was just in Ft. Lauderdale and I loved it. Sun all the time. The people were great. I've never been out east though. My wife's family is from there and part of my family resides there too. I do like the change of seasons but as I get older I find I'm really hating the snow. I don't like being cold. I do love fishing and hunting.

Yeah, there's nothing like a crisp fall day with the leaves changing colour and getting out of the city to the old cabin up by Peterborough.
