16 yrs song stuck in my head. Finally found it

For the last 16 yrs I have had a song stuck in my head and it really bugged me. I really liked this song my roommate had on a tape. I could only remember two lines, "Put the mind on idle" and eventually remembered "Wind him up". I searched the net using "Put the mind on idle" and asked around to no avail. It has been a while, so I searched Google recently must have tried " Wind him up" and bingo!!!! I found the song. I know I search that term before, but guess Google has gotten better.

"Wind him up" by Saga. The irony is , now I can put my mind on idle.

Go ahead, laugh. Wait til you get a song stuck in your head and it takes years to find it. MWC video is right on the money as far as frustration level.

Actually, their song "On The Loose" caused me to do a fanatical search for it on the net a few years ago, so I know where your coming from...

Finding useless information youve always wondered about is one of the best things about the internet. When I was about 11 years old (early 70s), a friend of mine had a K-Tel hits compilation album on tape. There were several songs on that album that Ive never heard before or since...in spite of the fact that they were supposed to be hits... and I never knew the name of the artists. Through the years Ive asked many people about these songs (just for the sake of nostalgia), but no one had ever heard of them.

Of course, I found them on the internet...AND the K-Tel album they were on!

What's funny is that I found a site where a guy was saying he performed one of these songs with his band, and that everyone always thinks he wrote it...he also had never met anyone who'd ever heard the song before.

Similar "Eureka" moment when I heard a long sought song played on a break tape.
It was "Double Barrel" by Dave & Ansel Collins. An instrumental with some
unintelligible (to midwestern ears) shout outs. So no lyrics to Google.

Yeah. I remember that one too. I heard it years ago on a local college station known for playing unusual stuff.

Took me forever to ID the song, Lullaby by Shawn Mullins. Thought of the lyric, "like Nashville with a tan."

Anyone know the song that has the lyric, "You get me high, Sherry..."? I've had that song in my head since college...

My epiphany came about twenty years ago. I remembered that Bill Cosby had done a song with the line "same huh" in it back in the late '60's. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what the song was. Then, one night while watching "The Cosby Show", Bill had Stevie Wonder on. Stevie played a song and sampled in it was the line "Little old man". Eureka, I'd finally found my song!

I had the same problem but for about 20 years. There was a song I loved when I was about 14 and a few years ago it popped into my head but only the music, I couldn't remember any of the lyrics or even what they sounded like. I kept wracking my brain and finally figured it out with the help of Google. It was New Girl Now by Honeymoon Suite which came out in 1984.

Still a great song!

In the early 80's a cheezy pop rock band was on American bandstand. I tuned in when they played their second song which I guess was the flipside of their single or something. Anyway, that song never took off. The song went through my head driving me crazy. Low and behold VH1 was doing one of their shows on one hit wonders or something and boom there it was. I am embarrassed to say I think the song was called "gone for so long" by Chilliwack. The song just had one of those hooks at the beginning that would not leave. I never heard it on the radio because it was the other song they performed first on bandstand that took off, and I don't even reacall what it was. Talk about being torchered for nearly half my life. The sad part is over 20 years later when I finally heard it again, I thought to myself, this is what I have been wasting all this time trying to figure out.

Jim, I sure am glad I still like the "Wind him up". After 16 yrs of hunting, it was worth it for me. In finding the song I hunted, I found a few other songs by Saga I absolutely enjoy too.

Yeah, I know the feeling...

I had a song in my head for over 59 years, until I found it on the net. I was 4-5 years old when I listened to that song that my father had on a 78 vinyl. All I remembered was "Hey la-bas, hey la-bas toé... comment ca va?"... The rest of the song was in english (or in creole???), which I wasn't understanding back then...

"cheezy pop rock band" Now...them's fightin' words! Chilliwack was a really big band here, and before that they were a really big band called The Collectors.

'My Girl' ( #6 position)

'Whatcha gonna do?' (#10 position)

They released 14 albums, and had 7 top 40 hits. Guitarist Brian 'too loud' McLeod left this band to form The Headpins. Chilliwack vocalist Bill Henderson still performs and draws crowds today.

They even got covered on SCTV!!

I bought an album by the Collectors, a Canadian group, in the late '60's. It was one of the darkest psychedelic albums I ever heard. Same group?

Thanks Casterway! Cool video with a rather cool solo. imho, a lot of "cheezy" 80's bands are cooler than memory serves. My regular jam band recently played around with Hungry Like the Wolf, which caused me to revisit Duran Duran's catalog. Andy Taylor is a tasteful guitarist!

You got it, Pontiac. The collectors were around from '66 to '70, before they became Chilliwack. I live 20 miles west of the city of Chilliwack, from which they took their name. They released 2 albums "The collectors" and "Grass and wild strawberries". They were one of the original Canadian psychedelic bands. Part of the tools used to hype them here in the 60's were giant billboards that just said "The collectors are coming" Ominous.

Chilliwacks music is as important to people growing up here in Western Canada as, I would guess the Steve Miller Band was at the same time down south. It was difficult to go through someones record collection in the 70's without finding at least one Chilliwack album, the same as you guys would have found with something like 'Book of Dreams'.

SAGA was a great group! I guess they were the Canadian 'The Fixx'.

Here's their other big hits

The Flyer

On the loose

I had "Disconnected" by Face to Face stuck in my head and nameless for about seven years. It really is an irritating feeling to be able to sing/hum a song but not know who or what the name is.

I guess my 'nameless' song would have been "Green eyed lady' by Sugarloaf. Took me a few years to put a name to that one.
