A smoke alarm when I was 11. It is the only thing I have ever won. But, I keep hoping to win a Reverend guitar.

a pair of band new Daoust hockey skates with Tuuk blades -- Top of the line in its day. My name was pulled out of a hat at hockey camp when I was a kid. The best part about it -- I was a goalie (for you non-hockey folks, goalie skates are a different beast entirely - these were not goalie skates).

I ended having the nicest pond hockey skates one could ever want.

In '93 I entered a local radio contest called "Sing Like Neil For Tickets". My friends put me up to entering cause I do a fairly good impersonation of Neil Young. I played and sang "Harvest Moon" on the air and won tickets to Neil and Pearl Jam, 55,000 people! 3 days later I won the grand prize, a cheap Epi acoustic autographed by Neil. Apparently Neil said why would anyone ruin a perfectly good guitar by putting my hen-scratch on it. The draw was supposed to be random but the jocks told me I did such a good job they set my name aside and pretended to draw it. After all it was radio...

I took Tim Armstrong since my partner, Laura isn't a big fan. We sat at a table in front and when Mr. Thompson signed autographs he sat at our table. I was too gobsmacked to say anything meaningful. There were all of 50 people at the show. I have some great pictures.
Hey, I won tickets to that too! What a great show! Didn't you have to win the tickets to be there? Like as in they didn't sell any? It was a pretty small (and obviously select) audience.

I once won the door prize at a company Christmas party. It was a gift certificate to a ski resort near Pittsburgh. Four of us went skiing, had drinks, and ate a big meal. I cashed the rest in on beer to go.

Note to self: buy... Best of... Bread... album

(In my age bracket, it probably still works.)

In 2nd grade, I won second place in a speech contest (I got a ribbon).

In my 20s, I won second place in a newspaper contest (cut a bunch of letters out of the classified section and mailed 'em in) -- won second place, which was a trip to Lake Tahoe.

I seem to be a second-place kind of guy!

Boy, I've won a few guns over the years, I'm a real sucker for any kind of gun raffel tickets & weekend cookouts where they give away hundreds of guns on 20 dollar tickets. I've never traded or sold any of those guns either, might bring bad luck of sorts.

I've hit at Potlatches too. Indians kinda have wakes 3 years after someones death in rememberence, end of mourning. They'll have 50 blankets, 25 30-30's, and al kinda of nice beadwork to hand out to everyone there. Really a nice way to say thanks to everyone for being there.

Prior to last year, it would have to be a bunch of fishing gear (lures, reels and rods) at work from a benefit raflle for the family of an employee who passed away. Then 2007, I won one of the drawings for the TDRPI fund raiser. The body and neck are being finished now, and I have all of the hardware snd pups waiting at home for the install (got a set of OC Duff Nancy's for this guitar).

Once it's done, I'll have pictures up.

Around 2000 I was working in this IT company which at the time had a sort of employee health program. One day after lunch downstairs, all my work buddies took the elevator, but I missed it somehow (our office was on fourth floor and I always used the elevator).

For some reason, that day I chose stairs instead. Then on the third floor this lady gave me a Polar heart rate monitor saying "this week we are awarding your kind of active persons who use stairs instead of the elevator"... I was pretty amazed

When I was in sixth grade (shortly after the Great Depression) I attended our post season football banquet. Craig Baynham, a Cowboy player at the time, drew my name from a hat and I won a football signed by the entire Cowboy team. Signatures include Hall of Famer Bob Lilly, world's fastest man Bob Hayes, Super Bowl MVP Chuck Howley, Lee Roy Jordan, Don Meredith, Craig Morton and North Dallas Forty writer/black sheep Pete Gent. I was at the age where a kid still idolizes his sports heroes, so it was pretty cool.

Yes, I still have it.

I was a huge Queen fan and bought their last studio album 'Innuendo' and was automatically entered into a competition to win the rest of their CD's.
I won.

The only problem was that being a huge Queen fan I already owned all of the other albums.
:-)

I won a Washburn Custom Shop Paul Stanley guitar in 2001. My brother entered my name in a music store giveaway.

I also won the TDPRI giveaway in 2004, got a Crook Paisley body and a GVCG '59 neck.

I won a spot in a foursome at a golf toonamint my company sponsors...it was all these bigwigs and we four employee shmos who'd won a trivia contest. I'm a hack golfer but it was a fun day - got to meet some pros and watch them hit some trick shots. I'd never played on a course as well-kept as that was...I guess it IS good to be the King.

I never have, and probably never will, win anything. Every thing I get in this world is by the hardest way possible, or so it would seem.

Two records in a row on KALE's Go-Go Giveaway. The DJ screamed with delight that someone one twice in a row. It was a small town, so all my friends heard it.

My wife, a painter, just won a Guggenheim award of $48,000. She'll turn 60 next fall and has kept to her vision, which wasn't a popular style for many years. Now that style is getting more attention and now she gets a sorely needed boost to her self-esteem and career. To be recognized for your life' work at this age is such a wonderful thing. We've had a rough year with my paralysis (I'm fine now). For two months, she slept on the floor next to me in the hospital. Her being right there saved my life twice. She is the best and I've never seen her so happy now that I am well and she gets this long-awaited recognition.

I'm always amazed at how some of these topics just pop up at very coincidental times. I was just talking on the phone with my wife. A co-worker of her's just won a new car.

So we were talking about what we've won. The answer is not much. Outside of sporting contests the best either of us has done is about $100 in a reverse raffle fundraiser last year. The funniest, when she was in middle school, my wife won a front end alignment at her brother's football banquet. I guess you had to be there but everyone thought it was hilarious. As a self-conscious early-teen girl, she was not amused.

Outside of the lottery, what I really want to win is a prize in the TDPRI raffle.
