Three String Pedal Bender Pictures.....

When i listed my Bender guitars a while back a few people mailed for some pictures of the pedal bender, so here they are. I don't know if these are made any more but were made by a Scottish company called Mackenzie, we've modified this one a little as the stop pins were quite loose and we replaced them with bolts as you see, these are going to be cut down and adjuster knobs fitted. Theres a cover that goes over the pedal tray to hide the works, really great for recording with.......pedals bend strings 2 and 3 up and 1st string down one half step.

got one of those...works great for recording and just leave it hooked up; i found it cumbersome to load, hook up, etc for a gig.....it's buried under a mound of stuff out in my junk room/garage/music cave....gonna have to drag it out and give it a go again someday....cool unit

how do you tune it?

does this mean:
a half step down for string 1
a half step up for string 2
a half step up for string 3

what is the open tuning on the guitar?

that's a very cool looking rig. thanks for posting the photo.

I think he means standard tuning, whole steps up on B & G (like normal B & G benders) and half step down on E so you can resolve it to a 3rd.

Like say you fret 000455, then resolve that 1st string down to G# with the bender to end a phrase in E.

How does this work on-stage? Is it cumbersome?

just my experience and opinion, here......

i didn't mean at all to imply the unit is not usable...it is very functional, does what it is supposed to do and does it very well...if i were still a gigging player and was in a situation where i could set my gear up, leave it set up, come back night after night, week after week, etc ....(like back in the late 60's, early 70's before it became fashionable for clubs to change bands every night/week)....then the floor bender would be my weapon of choice.....it's a GREAT unit by any standards...just a pain to move from gig to gig in my experience..

to move the unit around, the cables have to be unhooked from the "pullers" on the back of the bridge-plate ....if i had four arms it might be possible to load, unload, set up, move around without unhooking everything, but i don't so it ain't....for my applications, any one of my Hipshot equipped guitars is a much more sensible choice...at my age/health anything that makes playing easier/lighter is the route i am going to take...

then again, if i were still in a "house-band" gig, i would still be using two Twins instead of a Blues jr....

someone else may have a different take/feeling about moving the unit from place to place.....

Maybe what you need is a custom case that it all just fits in without dismantling.....

.....my only problem with it is that it reminds me of the floor of a 1961 Ford Anglia I once had...... :-)

would be a heckuva big case, fer sure...bigger than what would fit in my Firebird...the unit itself ain't exactly compact and it weighs quite a bit....case would end up being six foot long

Yeah...point taken....

I just thought that the case could be guitar-and-a-bit long, the cables could then double over under the guitar itself, and then with a bit of extra 'depth' the remainder of the cables and the floor unit itself could store under the neck of the guitar...

..perhaps I'm being over-simplistic...apologies if that's the case (no pun intended!).. :-)

...but I can see how weight could be a problem...sort of the reason my tweed Bassman doesn't get to all the gigs, seeing how we live on the second floor..:-0

Cheers from here...

There's gotta be a way to build something like this that would be more of a quick disconnect. Like three tabs drop into three sockets on the sliding parts that control tuning, then two screws or cams lock the thing in place. I haven't thought very long on this, but it doesn't seem like THAT hard an engineering problem to make it handier.

is the "ball/socket" ends of the cable that fit to the base of the bridge-plate MUST be tight to the bridge-plate....also, the E/B/G string ball-ends MUST be tight in the "catch/groove" on the ends of the cables...the bracket that holds the whole "thingie" (gettin' hi-tech, now) to the bridge-plate must be tight...otherwise, there would be too much "slop" and the unit could never be "tuned" correctly....i admit, i've had mine for several years now and maybe they have improved the design some, but i was under the impression these units were no longer being made...again, just my opinion, but i just found it too bothersome to load up in pieces. hook it all up for a gig, take it all apart to take it back home after the gig, do it all again somewhere else....one of my several internal bender Teles or several Hipshot- equipped Teles is MUCH more handy for my applications....i am just one of those guys that does NOT enjoy moving a lot of equipment from gig to gig...less is better for me.....again,....a sitdown, house band gig the same place every night then i would feel differently...but those gigs are forever gone around this area.....

I had one of those new in the box, but I only had the floor/cable part but didn't have the guitar part. So i sold it on ebay a few years back.

Well, I guess the good part is that when people see a big ol' chunk of walnut on stage they figure you're either really good or just nuts...then they actually listen to figure out which! (Especially once they realize I'm also carrying around a banjo, guitar, mandolin and harmonicas.)

The good part is that I got it rigged up so the Hammond preamp into the Leslie amp acts as my amp for the tele too. One less thing. :-)

Guess I'd better shut up now, since I'm waaaay off topic.

wwwwaaaaayyy overpriced in my opinion .....i bought mine for far, far less than that....but it may be a case of supply/demand....i really don't know what these units sold for new...only what i gave for mine...gentleman here on the forum quoted me a price and i didn't hesitate or try to negotiate; i just paid him....even tho i no longer use it for all the reasons already stated...i wouldn't even consider selling it for what i gave for it..
