CMAs
Was Patty Loveless's guitarist using some kind of a 335 with a bender?
Didn't get a close look at him (hey, the awards were on after midnight here - that's well into "cocktail" time!) but it SOUNDED like there was a bender being used. Anyone get a less, um, 'fuzzy' view of him? Was I hearing things? Is he just good at manual bends? And wasn't 99.9% of the show b*llocks! As Dale'd say "That's Country My A*s!" |

I didn't catch the CMAs but saw her on the Grand Old Opery a while back. Her guitar player had a bender Tele. In an earlier post he was identified as a young Australian named Jedd Hughes so maybe it's the same guy with a different guitar.

He wasn't playing live
He was "playing" to a pre-recorded instrumental track. She sang live to it. On the show, he had a semi-hollow body Epiphone. There's no way on earth those tones came from that guitar!
He does do a good job on the song though. I bought the CD and he's on it as well. Johnny Isaacs

Jedd Hughes
Jedd does have a bender tele, although I dont think he uses it much. His main guitar is or was (not sure now), an early eighties Squire tele. I believe fellow TDPRI'er Wally set that guitar up for him & sold him the blackface Deluxe Reverb that he has been using. I took his spot in a band here in Texas when he moved up to Nashville & got the Patty Loveless gig. Tough act to follow indeed. He's definately an amazing player.

EZ Bender...
FWIW you can add a Bender easily to any guitar with a Gibson style stop-tailpiece with the Epiphone EZ-Bender...

Pre recorded.
You can always tell. Just wait for the banjo part, or the mandolin...then they always make a swirly shot of the leadsinger....like they´re thinking "Uhhu what we going to do now...."
I´ve done some tv shows, and they´re always using pre recorded instruments tracks,(With us playing) because of the cost. They have about 100 people on the payroll and every hour costs astronomical amounts of money. But mostly it´s a case of the artist themself who want it that way. It a lot on stake..... I did a documentary kind of show on our band....They recorded a Live gig, both sound and cameras, in a small club. I think they had 4-5 people working the whole night. And I got to record som small pieces of instrumental accoustic fingerpicking music for background music,(5-60 seconds) and I was beeing filmed as well small stuff to go between the pieces...Fun stuff, Because he said play something fast for 15 seconds... and so on......There I sat in the biggest tv-studio in the land....alone on my stool...accoustic in hand.... but shows are different. Mostly when it´s live you hear it because the sund is pretty bad....compared to the singback stuff. Sorry for rambling on.....it all came back to me Baard
