Howdy Joe!
Joe,
You can play some cool stuff on a bender, though I think that it is no true substitute for a good E9th Steel. With only one string bending you are more limited, but it is still a whole load of fun! I think that my PSG playing influences my bender tele playing and vice versa. Some PSG experience will help as you know about pedal type movement and the theories behind oblique bends. On the whole, the two playing experiences are very complimentary... Your new Marlen is quite a work of art! I hope to read a full report tomorrow on the Steel Guitar Forum.

My Two Cents
Great to see all the Posts. I was on 10-15-03 and didn't get a chance to. Mine is a Crook Tele with a USAG Alder body and Bi-Lam Fatback neck. Lawrence 290 in Bridge, 280 in middle and a Lace Adder in the neck position. I've got a McVay B Bender on the strap and a G bender on the belt loop strap thing. I swear I only tune those benders once a year if I remember too.
I'm not able to post licks but if you can tune in 1170 am on Saturday nights (Jamboree USA) you'll hear lots of bender licks as I can't leave the darn things alone. The show is broadcast omni-directionally until sundown then it goes directionally NorthEast. The show covers 18 states and the eastern half of Canada. Some nights there's enough clams to feed a family of four. The theatre is big enough I get to crank up the Maz Sr. Too Much Fun!!! |

Joe, I saw the pics of that Marlen, too. Beautiful color scheme. I'm jealous.
The b-bender is functionally the same as the A-pedal on an E9th steel. It gives you that "extra finger" that you are sometimes looking for when you play a Tele, and lets you mimic a lot of standard E9th licks...especially when you mix it with manual bends of the 3rd string the way you might use the B-pedal or C-pedal. |

Bender-Mania has arrived!!!
I have also not taken the time to figure out how to post a pic, but will have to now that I have seen allof yours and feel left out! Mine's a sunburst/antique pearloid guard '99 Am.Nashville with the P/G B-bender factory installed. I have no idea if it's long or short throw but am ready to discuss more and figure this thang out...
As stated above, I have not really begun to figure this contraption out yet, but this forum looks to have some great and knowledgable folks posting that might help me and other wanna-benders out. I'm excited and proud to be part of this segment of the TDPRI and look forward to talking Bender here with you good folks! I again, want to thank El Supremo (Paul) for this addition to the TDPRI - muchos gracias, senior! :D

Bender-mania indeed......
When did Clarence put all those stickers on James Burton's guitar?
And what does a McVay bender look like? I'd also like to see a Bill Bores steelbender guitar compared to a Glaser installation. And those are just the opening demands. I'd like better health benefits too and equal justice for those of us on the left. Have you noticed that the Fox Network never books lefties? Please no flames, except on the guitar cases, for those of you who may have visited the Telemodders site. |

a bores steelbender, looks like a really really well installed parson. whereas a glaser is a completely different design. although bill makes a glaser clone too, just not called a steelbender he has another name for it.
![]() ![]() rick, here's a great japanese site you can look at w/ lots of examples of various benders. run it through a translating web site like yahoo bablefish or whatever to read the text. http://www.mitene.or.jp/~dolphy/Bender/stringbn.htm |

Jim, it's guitars speaking in tongues...
but it's very helpful to see the Shelton set up, which is even more economical than the Glaser with the pin and saddles apparatus hated by all guitar techs. The Hutto deal would be fine for an acouctic, and you could dry your laundry on it as well. Did they have one in "Mighty Wind"?

I've thought the Hutto looked interesting for acoustic...or maybe on a Les Paul (seriously).
Anyone have any experience with it?

I got me a couple of bender geetars.
94 Am Std with Glaser B-Bender and a guitar built be Bill Bores with Parsons style B-bender. I used to have an Am Std Double B&G Glaser bender but I sold it to Bill Bores. In the last couple years, I havent been playing the Benders much. I have a G&L ASAT Classic that sounds SOOOO good its hard to play anything else. |

Lots of P/Ws so....
Mine's a Glaser vintage bridge B-Bender in a Custom Shop blackguard Tele - 10/56 neck, SD Vintage Stack bridge PUP & SD '59 SH-1 Zebra neck PUP.
The Glaser vintage bridge version is similar to the one on Paisley's original Tele, but being a B-Bender it retains the normal E/A & D/G saddles and uses a heavy brass Elite-type saddle for the plain E string. I don't have a way to post a Pic either right now, but I do have closup pics of the bridge, back, end, etc. I made for someone who wanted to see one of these up close.

Checkin' in...
...late for the party, as usual, but then that's why they never ask me to bring the beer.
Have two benders at the moment, but not pics- I'll get some up ASAP. I have Beland's old '54, '56 neck, P/W B-bender #0021, prototype Dimarzios pickups, and all the history and tone that 49 years of playing can pack into it. Also have my Crook tangerine paisley, 100 year old one piece pine body, Warmoth boatneck, Stringpull long-stroke B-bender, currently with a SD Antiquities neck and ZanVandt bridge pickup, with all the history and tone I've played into it in the last 10 months- ok, most of it came installed! And I live just off of Bender Road- how cool is that?

I Gots One!
Howdy y'all -
I gots a B-bender as well... there's a guy down Tacoma way that machines his own design - it's a pinky actuated bender (the gentleman's name who designed it is Linn Collins). It replaces the bridge with a special one that has a pinky pull on the B-String (of course) --- as soon as I get a picture of it, I'll post it. Rock! Jorge |
