Didn't Jimmy Page use a B-bender at one time?

Dave, I think that would have been London session player Martin Jenner (bound Tele )
Now sadly departed, Mart and I played together for many years here in Perth Aust. He had done sessions for Mc Cartney, E john and many well know artists. Also can be seen on Everly Bros reunion video with Albert Lee and I believe playing your bender. Martin also played in Cliff Richards band for about 12 years.
His Tele was sold and I think went to its new owner back in the U.K.

Ah yes, that makes sense! I do remember shipping one to the UK and there was something special about it. Must have been the lefty! I also recall shipping one down under! Thanks John. You've helped put some missing pieces back into the puzzle.

Hi Dave (and John),

I was a friend of Mart Jenner when he lived in the UK and the lefty sunburst custom Tele that you installed the bender in is now owned by a mate of mine who bought it from Martin in 1992. A picture is attached (if the upload worked!!!). I know it's one of yours as the photos uploaded by someone else look exactly the same as this one (only reversed of course). Even down to the smoked plexiglass cover (you can actually see the workings through the cover). Martin said that he bought the guitar from another player in Bournemouth in the UK so I presuming you exported it to that person. I've always wondered who made Mart's b bender and now I know! I think you should consider making them again as you would have plenty of orders. Do you remember installing the bender on this guitar?? Thanks a lot, Paul.

Thanks Paul,
That was 35+ years ago, so please forgive me if I don't remember that exact guitar. I do remember doing the left hand bit. I also remember sending one to the UK so it must have been this one. Does it still pull?!! I just can't believe that after all these years, there are so many Pull Strings still out there!

I was listening to some tracks off the Tom Petty-Mudcrutch album..and Mike Campbell is playing a stringbender all over the place on it. That's apt to raise the profile of b benders alot....

Hi Dave, yes it still works fine (the last time I saw it a couple of years ago). I have a lot of recordings of that guitar and when operated it gives a very smooth pull/bend. I have a Parsons White pull string on my Tele but I think that yours is a superior design....built to last! All the best, Paul.

Anyone mention Buck Trent, with Porter Wagoner's band? OK, he played 5-string banjo, but he used a mute at the bridge for more sustain, and a pickup, and string benders. Most of the lead work on Porter's '60's records that sounds like pull-string Tele is actually Buck Trent on that hot-rodded banjo--a monster player in his day.

Buck Trent was an amazing guitarist. He played a bit busy, and was a real show dog in front of a camera, but he played some outragious stuff. And his bender banjo was something to witness, as I did when I heard him play live at the Opry in 1970 while I was in town for the Cash Show. I was blown away because I couldn't see a steel player onstage. It was Buck Trent!
Just watch some of those old Porter shows and you'll appreciate his unique ability. Buck goes back a long way.
I think theres a very old YouTube of Lefty Frizzell ( black & white) with a young Buck playing behind him. I think it's from one of the very first Porter Shows.
He was very entertaining, a real ham. But his style was very Bakersfield and few people give him the credit he deserves as a real hot guitar player.

Reuniting with an ol Bud

Heading out to Norway in afew days to do a festival with Freddy Weller. It's Freddy's first time back onstage since his son passed away a few years ago. It'll be great to see him again and to share the stage, as we go back many years....He's one of a kind and I, for one, am thrilled to see him starp that Tele on and hop back on board!
We'll be taping both our performances for a DVD..I'll post pics.
Cheers and hope to see some of our fellow Noray TDPRIer's there!

I believe the bender guy on Mudcrutch is Bernie Leadon's brother Tom Leadon.

Thumbs Callahan.

How many of the older guys here remember Thumbs Callahan. He played with Roger Miller. He used a palm pedal and laid his guitar on his lap.
