I want a B Bender Tele

I've been playing alot of country lately, and have been thinking about getting a tele, and I want a bender...I've been a strat guy all my life. Anyway, not looking to drop $1500 on a brand new one. If anyone knows of a good deal, or of a good place to get a new bender installed on a used tele, lemme know. Thanks!

You might consider a Hipshot. You could put it on your Strat, and at least find out if you dig a bender. Not much $ involved!

Forrest Lee Jr. in Nashville will do a bender install in your guitar, or sell you a finished body w/ bender, or a whole guitar. His benders are very much like a Parsons-White.

I think I'd go with the......

Hipshot idea on your Strat, there's about as much country in a Strat as in a Tele. I use both my Strat and Tele but could gig all night long with either of them and do on occasion. Here's a shot of my Strat with the Hipshot bender........JH in Va.

IMHO I found the hipshot difficult as I have my guitar up pretty high, it was more like a ribshot!! But it was enough to get me hooked. Bill Bores is currently building me another guitar :-)

Bill Bores? You mean you actually got in contact with him? There are MANY here who would like to have his contact info.

Bill has done a few projects over the years for me and has always treated me well, I chat with him every once in a while. He is currently building me a double bender, the B is a PW and the G will work off a PW hub but use the glaser type lever.

He did the install in my green telecaster as well as a blonde tele with a glaser style B.

I had no trouble getting my guitar to and from him, it was about 8 weeks, unlike some horror stories here of bodies left there for a year or what not.

Mine is a Parsons B and Glaser style G. I had to have the G mdoified by Charlie McVay to work correctly. I emailed Bill, but he only sent an instruction for an area on the Bridge to file myself, which was not the problem.

AFTER Charlie McVay fixed it it is a really cool bender system,

http://www.tdpri.com/forum/b-bender-...-g-bender.html

These benders will probably exceed drchiro78 mentioned budget.

I have a Fender 1996 bender tele, but I don't know if I want to part with it.

Very nice guitar, my biggest beef with the glaser style is how the string loads, that is why I want the hub type for the g, but I dont want the PW style because you have to pull the neck towards you and it frets out, it is also a little heavier

The Saddle bender loads by simply dropping the ball end in and pulling it back up into a hook of sorts, then tuning at normal re stringing. I haven't had any problems with that, the string doesn't sit in a groove though, so you have to center it well .

I agree about the parsons G, I also didn't want to pull towards myself and fret out. In most bender guitars that I've played, the wood removed offshoots the weight of the parts.

I agree in most cases the wood removed compensates for the materials added

Depending on the weight of the guitar, and where you like to play should be factors in your decision. Some benders are real hard to pull, if the guitar is heavy... because the gauge of the spring, length and tension need to be compenstated for. Not all Benders are created equal for all guitars. the original PW was as close to perfect as I have ever seen, I'm just compensating for weight and pull length with mine... I weigh the body first, and after, and know what spring to use and the length I need.

You like the ease of a PW style load and feel, and the push away for a G bender, so essentially McVey's G and a PW would be a good choice. Thats how I make mine, I make the G with a button like the PW, but the G is activated by pushing away like Joe's design, and I use lightweight materials so they generally dont add any weight.

You said you just wanted a B bender tho right?
$500 range?

And I do have a couple loaded bodies in my shop as well.

Hey if you'all are at Summer NAMM come by and see me, I'll be there all weekend, with several guitars to play with.

Guess I better ask Paul if I owe him for my vender status, I dont want me threads removed.

Also, I know a couple members give me crap about the cavity not being painted...
if my customers request the route painted, I do it. Most want to see what the guitar is made of, and the grain if it's a solid color. I just did Kevin Keys Tele, and it was the greenest wood I've ever seen... I mean the body seam went through the route, and the wood was white on one side and dark green on the other... I offered to cover it up... but he wanted to leave it exposed...

I'll be selling my NAMM guitars after the show as well.

Yup,I have a Forrest Customs double bender now on about 2 years and I absolutely love it. The B is smooth and accurate and yeah basically P/W style and the hub is STAINLESS STEEL ! The G is saddle type and pretty much flawless,I to wasn't
so hip on the P/W "G" design because I didn't feel like the movement (pulling the neck IN) was gonna be as natural for Me as pushing away, and it works well for Me,very comfortable.I love this Guitar more every day and have never had any issue whatsoever with tuning or excessive string breakage plus its a featherweight . Thank Yo SO much Forrest.
OH yeah I like My raw wood cavity looks
