Will Hip Shot install on new 6 saddle bridge?
Im about to purchase a Hipshot B Bender tail peice, with one question..will it still work on a newer style tailpeice? Mine has 6 independent adjustable saddles ( rectangle shape) Would I still drill into the lip of the base and then run the string from Bender-thru drilled hole-to underneath saddle or over the top? Drill directly under intonation screw ?Or new saddle? Im dyin to get started but need a little direction as Ive yet to see my Teles saddles used..Thanks a million ...yes its mexican, but plays like a champ!

if you are using the Amer Standard bridge with the off-set saddle intonation screws, the install will be fairly simple; just notch out for the "bent" string travel on the bridge plate lip and notch out a "travel path" on the saddles for the strings to be bent...it is really a pretty simple install if you have a dremel tool ...will try to get some pics up later if i can; computer problems going on.....as always....
try browsing thru the B-Bender section here and you'll find a TON of stuff about installing the Hipshot...some don't like 'em, but i for one love 'em, been using them since Hitler was a road guard.....good luck...

FWIW, I installed the HipShot on a homebuilt Warmouth Tele and I was able to install without drilling holes. Starting with the six saddle bridge and ended up with the compensated brass barrels with great success.
Major point is, I shimmed the neck back with card stock and elevated the Hipshot main frame with 1/16th spruce stock. It elevated the strings just above the bridge plate yet produced a proper angle to keep the string from moving anywhere. Hope you migh pick up a tip or so from this. Ray W. |

you can drill a hole next to the center b string between the b and g (and big E if the hipshot has the drop) and get a set of graphite offset saddles.
You'll still have to dremel a slot in the new saddle, but it's not really that tough. After you're done, send me the extra saddles! lol I use them for custom installs. |
