E, A, D, G, B, E Bender!

Hey everybody! It's been a while since I've posted here, but I thought I'd share something cool with y'all. Last night I had the privilege of performing with Boomer Castleman. If you don't know who he is, you should check him out. In my opinion, he is a true king of the string benders. He invented the Palm Pedal back in the 70's and I've never seen anyone do stringbender licks like he does. I took this pic with my camera phone. He's gonna install one for me on one of my teles. At first I was just going to get a one for the G, and B strings. But after watching him play, I realized I have to get all six!

It's very sound. Awesome design. I'm gonna buy one for sure. You can hear clips of him on his myspace and I think you may be able to hear him at his website, www.boomercastleman.com.

When he plays that thing, it really sounds like a pedal steel. And when he plays slide with it, it's something totally crazy. With his right hand, he works those pedals and gets all kinds of tunings while he works that slide with his left hand. He's really a genius. Definitely a new hero in my list of guitar heroes.

heck yeah..!!!...i like that a bunch...went to his website and i found no soundclips and could not get it to open beyond the home page..??...i would be VERY interested in getting a unit for one of my teles...

International Steel Guitar Convention in September of 1998 and hung out with him for a couple of days. He's definately a very hot player and on top of that he's a super guy to boot. The 6 lever unit he had in St. Louis was on a Telecaster. He's really got it down pat when it comes to operating those levers and has become a master of it.

I've been using Bigsby Palm Pedals since they came out and currently have them on an old Les Paul, an Epiphone Sheraton, and an Epiphone Casino. I was turned on to them by an old friend in LA name Al Bruno who had one of Boomer's prototypes.

Boomer has some CD's out which are very good, I especially like his "Solo guitar" one which has a great version of "Mystery Train" with just him alone, no band or other instruments on it. He also sent me a copy of a promo CD he had when he was working with his own trio. He was the featured vocalist which just goes to show you that he is a talented dude and not just on guitar. A very well rounded musician to say the least....JH in Va.

Recently I was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame (June 10 2009) for the Palm Pedal, which I came up with 41 years ago. Thanks to all benders here for supporting both me and the device for all these years. In my acceptance speech at the Hall of Fame club I said "Nashville traditionally reveres the dead and ignores the living; they must have heard I was violently ill" :-) Seriously, its you players out there that brought not only my palm pedal device to the forefront, but all bending devices, thereby creating a whole new sound to the guitar.
