Hipshot Brand Parsons/Green Style Bender Assy.

Here is a link to the item on the 'Bay. Has anyone had any experience with these? I'd rather have the McVay style, but money is also an issue.

I picked one of these up a little while back for my younger brother. He totally loves it! It is a good quality product for the money.

I have one of these in my #2 Tele which I keep.....

tuned down a whole step, so it's actually an "A bender". My main Tele has a P/W bender but the HipShot P/G bender works every bit as good as the P/W and is actually more quiet.

Another good point of it is this... My P/W bender is a little stiffer action than the P/G but for some reason it engages on it's own easier. Example: If I stood with my P/W guitar on without touching it and did a little hop, the P/G bender would engage a little. The P/G guitar has easier action but if I did the same test it wouldn't engage. I'm not sure why, maybe just a different pulling hub or something.

Also, I had mine installed by Brian Friend in California who did an outstanding job on it.........JH in Va.

If you'd rather have the McVay style, I'd hold off til you can afford what you really want. If you buy the Hipshot, are you also paying an installer? Just a thought. Charlie's Bender's are the best out there. $650.00 and usually 4-6 weeks. I haven't spoken with him lately, so I'd check with him on his workload.

Does Hipshot's Parsons/Green kit come with a router template?
I have a drill press and can borrow a router (yes, this has danger written all over it).
Who has installed their own?

Yes it does.........

The HipShot unit does come with a pattern for the router template and very detailed instructions, with clear pictures, on how to install it......JH in Va.

The Hipshot is not that difficult to install if you have good wood working skills, patience, and the proper tools. The drawing provided with the unit will show you how to make a router template and how to properly align everything. Drilling the hole for the tower in the proper location is the one thing that you can't mess up. If you have any doubt about your abilities, have a bender installer put it in for you. There are a few good ones that post here. I have also had work done by Brian Friend and he is exceptional. In most cases, the cost of install is cheaper than the cost of replacement.

You can say that again. The Hipshot stringbender comes with a full-scale drawing that you can position over the body and with a sharp pointed object, you can mark points in the wood. The location of the tower does have to be right on. If it's a little up or down, the string won't land in the center of the saddle. I did my own installation last year. I did a quick video of it here.
