Callaham 'Enhanced' saddles on a bender?
I have a MIM Tele with a Warford bender installed in it, and I want to upgrade the bridge from the standard MIM to a three saddle vintage. I've read here that the bender action will cut the string into a brass saddle so I'm going to go with a steel saddle, at least for the D/G (it's a G bender).
Callaham sells a compensated set that has the face of the saddle angled, but I'm wondering whether the severe angle at the top of the saddle will eventually 'saw' through the string, resulting in breakage. I'm kinda wondering whether the full sized barrel version of these would be preferable. ![]() However, he recommends these saddles in particular for benders (I included his description below). Anyone have any experience with these? ==== Callaham 3 Enhanced Vintage Compensated Tele Saddles Machined from billet stock. (set of 3) Available in Brass or Stainless Steel. The Enhanced Vintage saddles to me is our best design. It maintains the vintage look while eliminating the problem of the string moving on the saddle and altering string spacing. If you are using string benders, it is the saddle I would suggest and I would recommend the stainless steel saddle. Just like our original saddle it will give perfect intonation.

I have a set of brass Callahams on my Pullstring Tele, which gets at least an hour a day of playing time; the current set of strings have been on it about 3 weeks (I used to change at least once a week but have gotten lazy in my old age
When you first get a bender it's easy to get sucked into bending every note you can, but with time you learn to "play" the bender like a different instrument, with the bender used much more sparingly. IMO SS saddles sound bad - brittle, icepicky...just too much top end. Bridge makers WILL recommend SS for bender players to avoid wear, but it's just not that big an issue.
