I was lucky.
I had the cash when one became available.

I wonder how many were made by Fender?

Also, I have seen variations in serial numbers.

Tidepoolbay,
I have CW009, Brian F has CW028 and there are other past and present owners on here. I have been trying to gather information on these guitars. There are 200 +/_ of them out there, several of which are in other countries. I had recently expressed interest in starting a thread on these guitars, so let this be it. May we hear from others who own/have owned/know of others who own this model?
Thanks,
Mike R.

I just bought one!

I just bought one which is being shipped to me in Australia as we speak...It looks to be in good shape, if it's any help I'll post some pics and a bit of a review when I get it...Seems there aren't that many of them around the place, especially over this side of the Pacific...I'm pretty excited about this one I must say, might have to get the Nashville West CD!

Congratulations! BTW Clarence recorded the Nashville West CD way before he had a B Bender installed. It's still a MUST have though Any of the Byrds CD's starting with Dr. Byrds and Mr Hyde...Clarence played the Bender on...

Hi,

Just joined the group and want to report that I own a 1994 Clarence White Telecaster (Custom Shop) serial # CW018. I bought it first hand at approx $2,500 when the retail price at that time was about $4000-5000...not too sure. It was the first and only Tele I ever bought brand new mostly because it had a feel close to my 1956 original black Telecaster. But this wasn't the only reason, I felt it was a very well made Guitar, the finish, the type of wood, the weight, and the Bender alone was worth that much money to me. It would cost me more than that to make one because the Bender part itself was about $600-800 at that time. I hardly took it to gigs because it was too pretty. I hope this helps the Collectors who are trying to gather information. I have all of the documents and receipts still intact. BEAUTIFUL GUITAR!!!!! The only complaint I have is I wish the neck was a little smaller in depth like my '56 Tele.

Regards.

In about 1999 I worked in a Music store in Orlando. I talked the purchasing guy into getting one in, it took about 8 months. When it arrived, I loved it like no guitar before it.

I was woking in another store from the same chain of stores and heard the horrific news that one of the pimply faced part timers working in the store hung the skinny headed tele in a guitar hanger in the window and it took a dive that night. A chunk about the diameter of a dime came out of the back edge.

I never did manage to buy one, but that was the beginning of my lusting for one, despite the tele world's loss ov that particular perfect tele.

They are nice guitars - I was on the verge of buying one but ended up with a Nashville West from Mike Nihen's Stringpull Guitar Shop. Compared to the Fender CW model it's a far more accurate "reissue" - although Fender doesn't call the CW a reissue, many have called it that, and with the short-throw stock bender and stock-type pickups it's basically a Custom Shop bender Tele with Clarence's name on it.

I *do* till wish I'd bought one though!

My first post.

I own #CW081. Phenomenal guitar. I bought it brand new in Y2K from Musician's Friend. I think I paid around 4k. Worth every single penny IMHO

Someone contacted my several years ago after seeing my guitar on MySpace. They wanted to know if it was for sale. It wasn't & isn't.
