B and G Parsons and Long Stroke

This forum has been extremely helpful to me in my B bending quest and my initial thread continues to bubble along and help me in my decision but I thought one enquiry was worthy of another thread.

Could somebody explain to me in great detail how the Parsons B and G bender works? Something to do with the other strap button? Hooking something to belt loop? Crazy stuff. If somebody has a picture that would help.

Also similarly I'd like more info on the long stoke version of the PW bender. The usual PW bends from B to C sharp right? How far does the Long stroke bend too? Or am I missing the point?

Thanks in advance guys.

Darren, there is no difference in a short and long throw in function. They both bend the note a full step. The difference is in the time that they do it. Listen to Clarence on Tulsa County or Deportee to hear the long duration of the rise and drop. While only 1/3 to 1/2 inch longer in travel (depending on how it is set up), the effect is dramatic.

Most sum it up this way. Quick bends for the new country sound and long bends for Clarence. While both will work for both types of playing, there is some compromise involved in the cross over. In addition, the long throw is more expensive, but; you can convert a long throw back to a short throw if it doesn't work out.

This is a long throw done by Brian. I'm sure Brian or one of the other forum members can post a short throw for you.

Darren, a couple of other pictures for you. The other holes in the linkage allow you to adjust the pull length.

It would be very interesting to hear a short phrase played by both long and short throws.

I really do feel as I've made my decision now. I think I'm going to get a PW Steelbender Long Throw and I feel I can get it done in the UK.

I'll keep you all informed.

This forum has been an immense help in guiding me through a mine field!
