Schaller Locking Tuner Install

I had my neck routed for Schaller Locking Tuners when it came from Warmoth.
I got my locking tuners in.. and I noticed that they fit, but the small "nubs"
on the back of the tuners were not predrilled.
This is important if you want to get the tuners straight. I am not sure if this is typical.. or not.
Is there some sort of template that I need to use?

Not cheap but you have it forever and it works perfectly.

that is pretty cool. I was hoping to use something cheap?!
I already have the large holes drilled.. I just need the 2 small pins to be in the right place.

I just put some on a strat clone. The template was actually on the cardboard backing that the tuners were packaged with.

Just line them up on the guitar, take a ruler or something straight, straighten them and push the tuner down, the little pins should leave an imprint on the wood, and drill from there.
You can see if one or two of the tuners are out of line. I usually take the E and e tuners and take a straight ruler, draw a line down to see if its straight.

Make sure you don't drill through!

I just bought a replacment neck for my tele and am was getting ready to mount the tuners (from the old neck--2001 MIM model) and saw that four of the tuners are stamped with a number "2" and two are stamped with a number "1."

Surely this indicates some kind of placement order?

Mine are marked II and III

The way I tell them apart is this:

Look at the post. You should notice that the string holes and groove are in different locations. You should have three high ones, and three low ones.

The low ones go to the high strings, (e,b,g), and the high ones go to the low strings (d,a,e).

The low ones increase the break angle over the nut, eliminating the need for a string tree, as on my strat plus.

Roman Numerals?

No, those are just diecast ID numbers. I've seen them marked I, II, III and IV.

No, not Roman Numerals. Thanks for the input. I compared the 1 to the 2 with some calipers and all measurements were identical.

Went ahead and mounted them, but then removed them to do some finish work on the headstock.
