Please disregard my earlier question about fitting the 70s F-Tuners on an older American Standard neck. I was thinking out loud.
Please look at the photo and tell me if you forsee any problems with how close the top of the Gotoh tuner comes to the edge of the headstock.
In another post I said it peeked over the top, however there is some wiggle room with the bushing and I can move it very slightly to the south with the right padding.
I'm just trying to get the heavy Schallers off the Tele.
Thanks.

Thats a tough one. I think the tuners only work their best when the bush has a firm fit and is not isolated. Trying to place the tuner offset in the existing hole does not achieve that. But the these tuners really do improve things, I feel.
When you install all 6 tuners, you need some room to get 'em all to align with and not crowd one another. My solution would be to trim off the offending part of the tuner base, if once everything is installed, it still hangs over..

I don't really see a problem using the vintage tuners. One thing you could do is file down all four sharp points on the two end tuners so they all look the same. I think your problem may be compounded by the original holes being drilled closer to the straight side of the headstock.
Another much more involved option is to plug all six holes with dowels and redrill all six holes. I'm not saying it's a good option.

We'll see how it goes. I think the original problem may have stemmed from having to wrap tape around the bushings to get a snug fit, if uneven, fit.
The conversion bushings were too large, which surprised me.
If it comes down to plugging holes and redrilling or living with the Schallers ... I can deal with the clunkers.

If you don't mind widening your holes, you can use a tapered reamer to get the conversion bushings in for a snug fit, and file the corners off the tabs on the tuners if necessary as boris and jwells have already suggested. :)
