schaller f tuners -- fit question

If I could buy a set of the "F Tuners" locally, I would. But I can't, and was hoping to get an answer to this question prior to placing an order.

I have a neck that was originally drilled for the Schaller two-pin tuners, an old American Standard. I tried fitting a set of split-shaft Gotohs, but found that the tip of the casing stuck over the edge of the headstock. It was visible from the front of the guitar.

I am wondering if the casing for the F Tuners is smaller. They seem to be about the same size as the modern Schallers but, of course, set at an angle. And these are made for the 10mm holes, no?

I regret to say, I agree completely. I've replaced the neck on my 1999 MIM '69 Thinline, and I've kinda quit looking at guitars equipped with these tuners.

For cosmetic or functional reasons? I just really want the Schallers off and the Gotohs not fitting properly was a bummer.

And yes, I realize the F-tuners are Schallers.

I like the "F" ones. Years ago I wanted to change tuners I had the Gotoh Kluson vintage style and I had to close the holes with wood dowels and drill them again 'cause the trees on the "F" are thinner.

A combination of things, I'd say. I was missing one bushing, and my substitute was close, but not perfect (plating color different). The 'F' style seemed lashy and flimsy, didn't give me a stable tuning result. Then, the stock neck with the vintage frets had some dents in the frets, not enough to interfere with the playing result, just a bit of the joy of it. The Warmoth Boatneck 1 +11/16ths I stuck on there sounds real incredible, just a better neck in every way except authenticity. When I find or assemble a better thinline, I'll return this one to stock and sell it; someone else with be wowed, I guess.

I tried some new F tunered MIMs in the stores, I don't think tuner wear is a factor in my case.

I recently sold a set of the Schaller tuners .

These tuners had the ' S ' marking , but were a direct replacement for the 70's necks .

Which means the spacings are different than standard .

They won't fit a normal spaced guitar as far as I am aware .
