Body repaint-do you plug or mask holes?

I am getting ready to attempt my first repaint. I am concerned with the string thru body holes on the back side. I haven't come up with a good idea how to plug them so they don't get filled with multiple layers of primer, color, and clear coats. I don't want to chip the new paint when I try to install the string ferrules.

Maybe you just ream them out after painting is complete? I am looking for guidance and suggestions here.

Fagitaboudit................Let them fill with paint. When you're ready to install them use a soldering iron and a #1 phillips screwdriver. The heat with soften the paint and they will slip right in. The first five ferrules below are sticking up because this guitar has a 1/4 in. acrylic back.

Thanks Jack! I never would have thought of that.
