wiring problems

So, I've been working on a partscaster for well over a year, and I've had my share of ups and downs (let me just say putting .090 binding around the upper curves is a pain in the ass!). But when I got to the wiring, it seems I am just plain out of my league.

I bought some Fralin tele pups and electronic parts from a local guitar shop. I then wired everything up according to the stewmac tele diagram (which is posted here on tdpri), but nothing seemed to come out right. I had my perfectionist friend who has done some soldering in his day help me and double check my work all along, but when I plugged in:

1. The bridge and neck position pups were reversed in the control switch...ie, up was bridge and down was neck.

2. The middle position didn't work at all.

3. The volume pot wasn't working as it should...the guitar was way quieter than it should have been through my amp and once it was rolled off half-way there was no sound coming through at all.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit all of this, especially since I stared at that diagram for hours double checking that I had wired everything correctly. I am at al loss now, though, and I don't want to just cave in a take it to a tech to finish off the guitar I have put so much love into. Any help? Could be a bad switch? Or bad pots? Or just bad wiring?

Can you post pictures of the wiring you've done so far? That may get you some responses that could help correct obvious problems.

If you gotten to this point in your project including some tough binding, I wouldn't assume the wiring is out of your league.

Sorry, no pictures...I have already disassembled everything to test the components...we thought maybe it was the pots, because they were acting weird on the meter. Turns out, audio taper pots are supposed to look weird on a meter.

So I think the pots were okay, although I did buy some linear taper pots because I want more drastic control over the tone.

I can try to get a picture of the switch...I had found two different diagrams for wriring which appeared to have been designed to accomodate different switches. Maybe I used the wrong switch for the stewmac diagram?

That takes the fun out of it doesn't it? Can you try a different switch?

Here are some other wiring diagrams.
