The thread on the J5 headstock got me thinking about building a 12 string using that headstock. Would parts exist to do it without "fabbing" anything (12 string bridge?) or is this not really doable?
thanks

Gotoh makes a 12 string hardtail bridge. 6 strings are string-through, the other six are strung through the back.
I'm not sure what bridge Fender used on the Fender XII, but I don't see how it could be too different.

Here's how I did it.

The J-5 headstock would have to be modified somewhat.

Warmoth make these for $157 - add $40 for the Gotoh bridge and ya laughing!

The nut is 1 3/4 wide and best of all - it looks like a twelve string!
Good luck dealing with the wacko string-through holes on the gotoh bridgeplate, though... Probably best re-drilled.

got the gotoh saddles and a standard string-through bridge and then drilled some holes in the top of the bridge for the other six strings.
sooo easy and worked an absolute treat (must post some pictures...!)
