I was just looking at a post about an eBay Telecaster.

The seller joined in to verify the authenticity of his guitar. He was listed as a NEW MEMBER!, this was his second post; but his "join date" was August 2004.

That's confusing to me...

New member status is to do with your post count, not your join date. As are all the other titles.

Post Counts are updated hourly. Not instantly.

We have 5,000 members that have been members since 2003 but they have zero posts.

One day I may remove all members with zero posts that haven't visited the page in the past two years -- this would remove about 7,000 members. But I'm not about to do it right now.

I would bet that there are a lot of people who join but just read.

If I couldn't post or didn't have anything to say, I'd still come back to look around. Where else could you find this much info? And you don't have to wade through bickering and all the crap that fills most forums I've seen.

This forum to most of us is somewhat social, but to others, it's like a DIY/repair site. I belong to a diy site that i've been with for over 2 years, and I'm listed as a new member. I don't like to work on farm equipment, or yard equipment... but when my snowblower is broken, I visit that site for help, not to talk tractors or tillers and such. I've posted there 2 or 3 times when I've had an issues, because there are guys that are into that stuff as much as we are into Telecasters. I have done great with some of those "John Deere-aholics".

I originally joined the site in 2003 and never posted. Just read stuff and learned... then I was gone for about a year... forgot my name and login and joined again in like 2006 and felt like sharing... I already 'knew' a lot of the folks here...
