MIJ Pickups, Junk?

I'm working on a project guitar and am deciding on a bridge pickup. I don't want to buy anything so I am using what I have on hand. Currently the guitar has a Texas Special bridge pickup. I usually prefer more of a "vintage" tone than what the Texas Special provides.

I have a MIJ 52RI made in 94/95. I pulled those pickups and installed a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster and Seth Lover immediately after I got the guitar last year. So, on hand I have the bridge pickup that I pulled from the MIJ.

Anyway, what is the typical quality of these pickups? A better pickup than my Texas Special? I'm trying to decide if the swap would be worth it or not.

Thanks,
Wayne

It really all depends on what sound you want. The stock MIJ is light wound...it is compressed...kinda bright...but one of the better stock pups available. The TS is overwound, not very bright, with a midrange bump.

I have a 52RI in the bridge and a Paisley in the neck. I was going to get better pickups, but these sounded so good, I left them in. In fact the entire guitar plays and sounds so good the way it is, I'm afraid to change anything, in fear I'll loose the "magic".
