Telecasters on the Gospel Music Channel/ Tele vs. PRS

I just got cable hooked up and came across the Gospel Music Channel, Gospel's version of MTV I guess, and while watching I was pleased to see three videos in a row of young contemporary rock bands sporting Tele's of different flavors... and since then have seen many more. Standards, Nashvilles, even an Esquire...
I guess it goes to show that the Tele really is a versatile and popular guitar.
Most bands in the secular world playing the same style of music seem to opt for PRS or Gibsons of some sort, and the iconic PRS line seems to be the standard for today's rock guitar players, at least thats what you usually see on MTV etc.
Incidently, one of the other guitar players on my worship team got a PRS for Christmas... A CE I think he said... He let me take it for a spin and while it did sound incredible, and played great (reminded me of an early 80's Ibanez Artist I used to have,) I went home and picked up my modest little old MIM Tele and was blown away by how much smoother, faster and more comfortable it was than that PRS.
I used to covet those beautiful PRS guitars I saw in my various catalogs and on the disply racks in the stores, but now, I really don't think anything else but my tele will do the trick. Especially considering I paid $150 for it, vs. the $2000+/- price tag on a PRS.

Yep . . . smoother, faster, and more comfortable . . .

My son, who is a lead guitarist in a Bay Area metal band, got his custom made $6,000 guitar just before Christmas. Of course he brought it over to show me and let me play it. Days later, on Christmas, he was at the house, and he picked up one of my Tele's that I keep out on a stand in the home theater . . . he played it for about 30 minutes . . . and said, "This thing is incredible . . . I forgot how great Tele's play . . ."

Ayup!!!

$6000... wow... and I cringed at shelling out $50 or so to put that set GFS Modern Vintage rails in my $150 MIM tele...
Although I shouldn't be surprised... I've paid $475 for a good pair of hand made work boots, (13 years ago and they are still going strong...) so I guess it does pay to spend a little more on custom quality if that's what earns your paycheck.

There are a lot of differences between Tele's and PRS's, but the biggest one is the price.

I have both and like both...of course the tele that you are used to playing will play faster that a strange guitar you're not familiar with. PRS' are very high quality guitars with a lot of design on top of functionality whiile a Tele is strictly a functional guitar nothin fancy. After saying this I really love my tele as it gives more tonal landscape than the PRS but it's hard to beat either one,for their respective uses.
