esteban January 11th, 2008, 04:57 PM The strings on my Tele have been on there for a few months.
I'm thinking of switching the maple neck with the rosewood one on my Strat knockoff (and settle the debate once and for all!).
Is it alright if I use the same set of strings? Or will they get mad at me and decide to explode?
viking January 11th, 2008, 05:07 PM If anything it will help you hear the difference between the necks....If they are more than a few weeks old I normally change them
boris bubbanov January 11th, 2008, 05:28 PM Esteban, this is maybe the #1 reason why I'm addicted to these 'kluson' copies, aside from the fact they're great looking and cheap in multiple sets at Stew Mac.
I can get those strings popped off of there, swap necks and be restrung in very little time. I do feel ya gotta put the two 90 degree turns in there, ya can't just shove a cut string down the hole and start turning.
With modern tuners, all that unkinking, you're gonna damage maybe one out of every twenty strings, sometimes without recognizing it.

Only if they are GHS Dynamite Alloy Boomers.
bendecaster January 12th, 2008, 02:46 AM I think you should definately change your strings even if you don't put on a different neck.
blue metalflake January 12th, 2008, 03:35 AM Don't think of re using - change them
601210 January 12th, 2008, 08:51 AM Last night, I was doing whole step bends on my high e string.
It was (very) poorly put on, and only had one and a half good wraps around, not to mention it was cut very close to the hole. The string popped straight off.
It was a bit hard getting it back on, because there was no more weight to keep the string from slipping off, but I managed it with a pair of pliers.
johnnygold January 12th, 2008, 09:19 AM One gig - one set of strings. Thatīs how i do it.
If i play a guitar just at home, i use the strings of course a little longer. Then it depends on how long i play the guitar and how the strings feel and sound.
To me there is nothing worse than a worn out set of strings.
Of course you can restring with the old ones, but i think there are better ways to save money...
teleman58 January 12th, 2008, 10:24 AM Unless the strings are only a week or two old, I'd change them. Nothing like the sound of a fresh set of strings.
JimiBryant January 12th, 2008, 10:30 AM when I was young and very poor, I'd save my used strings in case one broke and I had to replace it.. did this for a few years until I started buying my strings by the box lot (on sale, usually) and then I always had plenty of spares.
esteban January 16th, 2008, 01:39 AM Here's what I'm going to do...
I'm gonna switch necks, using the old strings initially. If I like it, I will get new strings, and if not, I'll switch back and still use new strings.
Mostly because Guitar Center is having a clearance and I can get 6 sets for $20 haha.
Deaf Eddie January 17th, 2008, 04:02 PM Didja ever break a wire clothes-hanger by bending it back and forth a bunch of times? 'Nuf said...
