My First Amp Build

I recently finished a Marshall 18 Watt TMB clone. I made it from a GDS kit. It came out pretty nice and sounds fantastic. I built the cabinet from scratch with 1/2" birch ply. The tolexing was fun! The head took me about 25 hours or so. It was a challenge for a first amp, but now I think I can handle a 5C1.

Nice cab.

Those are fantastic amps.

I recently took one of my 18w builds (the one I modded for 6V6's) and gutted the Normal channel so I could cascade it into the TMB channel. Now I've gotta JCM800 front end on that thing.

Nice cab and amp! Thanks for those photos.

That's a fantastic cab!

As someone who's about to venture into ampbuildingland, I salute you!

I'm gonna have to get help from a talented woodworker friend for my cabinet. All I have is a power drill, a circular saw, and a Dremel...

The cab was like a whole separate project. I'm not the best woodworker in the world but managed to dovetail the 1/2" ply okay. The tolex was the major pain for sure. Notice too that I ran out of gold piping on the bottom, I still don't have a grill for the vent, no feet as of yet, and the grill cloth is mint green sparkle (definitely not stock). So I still have some work to do on the cab.

I have a vintage 30 speaker on the way and may end up ordering a greenback if I don't like the sound. The Mod currently in it is okay, but...

They are a blast from the start, so good luck with your build. Patience is key!

Nice-looking build. Iwant to see more! How about some "gut shots"? Of some shots of the iron?

Thanks.

As requested, here are some in progress shots. Bob, if you're not already, consider joining the 18watt.com forum. It's without a doubt the best amp building forum I've found.
