I'm looking to buy an AC-30 style amp. Tremelo and reverb optional, the less controls the better. Any suggestions?

Wayne Alexander November 29th, 2007, 02:29 AM How about an AC30? The new Heritage series ones have no master volume (though they do have a pentode/triode switch) no reverb no tremolo no effects loop, and have both an EF86 channel and a top boost channel. They're handwired, come as a head or a combo with two blues. They sound superb. http://www.voxamps.co.uk/heritagecollection/ac30h2.asp David Barnett November 29th, 2007, 02:35 AM Valvetech Hayseed 30 always gets good reports. jaydawg November 29th, 2007, 07:14 AM Dr. Z Stangray is a straight up ac-30/4 clone with an added tone control. http://www.drzamps.com/stangray.html bantam rooster November 29th, 2007, 06:09 PM Thanks guys. I didn't realize the heritage series existed, and it looks pretty promising. jjh37854 November 29th, 2007, 08:53 PM get a used dr z mazerati, you can get them for around a grand these days tele_jas November 30th, 2007, 12:38 AM get a used dr z mazerati, you can get them for around a grand these days I've got a Stangray and a Mazerati.... very different amps, but very similar too... and both firmly planted in the AC30 camp. I don't think you could go wrong with either one of these amps, and as you mentioned "the less the better". The Stangray has: Tone, Cut, Volume and the Mazerati has: Tone, Volume. The Stangray "chimes" more, while the Mazerati has a stronger mid range (in a good way). Mr. Z November 30th, 2007, 01:22 AM How about an AC30? You're right - it's got lots of mids, but they seem to be very broad, so there isn't a mid-hump quality to it at all. It's also got a very nice "chime," but not as high-endy as other chimey amps (what weird words are required to discuss this stuff!). The low end too is just so tight and strong. Needless to say, I dig it. Rumble December 2nd, 2007, 02:12 AM How about a... Vox? klast December 2nd, 2007, 08:09 AM How about a... Vox? +1 Or a Laney VC series? Klas |
