Tech question AC30

On a previous post here I asked about a AC30CC1 that is posted on my local CL. Good reviews. not many replies but nothing Bad.
Im going to check it out tonight.
So Im sitting here and perusing CL again and up pops an AC30CC2.
So.....Im looking at the specs and see there is also a AC30CC2X which has the Celestion Blue speakers.

My question is this. The CC1 has 1 30w Neodog, the CC2 has two 30w Wharfdales and the CC2X has 2 Celestion Blue 15w speakers.

Since the amp is rated at 30W does the CC2X run the 2 15w speakers in series and the CC2 run the wharfdales in parallel?
I ask this because I can get the CC2 for $500 and put two "Blues" in it for the same price as is being asked for the CC1 (with flight case).
How does the series/parallel setup effect output?

Running two 15 watt speakers in an amp, series or parallel, divides the wattage so the amp can put out 30 watts. The impedance of course is 1/2 the impedance of each single speaker in parallel wiring, and double the impedance of each single speaker in series wiring. Assuming the output transformer matches the actual impedance of the combined speaker load, there's a little tonal difference between series and parallel wiring but no particular volume difference. The AC30CC series has 8 ohm and 16 ohm taps on the OT, the standard speaker load is two 8 ohm Celestion Blues in series, to give you a 16 ohm speaker load. Then if you want to run a second external cabinet with a 16 ohm load, you switch the amp to 8 ohms. You could in theory run two 16 ohm blues in parallel for an 8 ohm load, but then you can't run an external cabinet at the same time as the internal speakers, without changing the output transformer. Voxes are NOT tolerant of running lower speaker impedance than the setting on the output transformer.

Thanks Wayne, That clears it up perfectly.

I went to try the AC30CC1 an hour ago and it is COMPLETELY SWEET.

Im going to go see the CC2 tomorrow.

I think there is a VOX in my future.

For the CC1, the drug is to replace the Neodog speaker with either a Celestion Gold Alnico or an Eminence Red Fang. Either of those will give the characteristic "Blue Alnico" tone and yet handle the full output of the amp.

For the CC2, Vox charges so much for the Blue Alnico upgrade that it is actually cheaper to buy the amp with the Wharfedales, buy a new pair of Celestion Blue Alnico speakers from Avatar, and install them yourself. You might even be able to get a few bucks for the Wharfedales on eBay, but even without selling them you still come out ahead financially.
