Favorite delay pedal?

I'm currently using a Boss DD5. It's a great pedal, but I'd be interested in trying an analog delay to get more "vibe". I seem to remember really liking a Maxon delay. T-Rex Replica seems to be highly regarded, but is extremely pricey. What about the EH Memory Man?

my first act delay pedal has been a hugh suprise, nice and cheap too, I realize that dirt in the repeats may not suit everyone but it suits me just fine. Bil

Picked up a Danelectro Dan-Echo on ebay for 30.00, great for slapback, pretty analog sounding. Friend of my has a Line 6 DL4 , does the clean digital thing great, but expensive.

well the Dan-Echo is none-too-shabby for the price of a used one these days
but I really like the Digitech 1002 from the 1980s - it's a blue rectangular
box with a "repeat" feature much like an Echoplex.. I've been using the
same one for about 12 years now and I picked it up used from my local
GC for way less than $50 if I recall correctly?! can't recommend it enough
y'all.

I even dig the cheap lil' plastic-cased Dan-O slapback for live use as ain't
nobody going to be able to tell it's sucking some tone up there!!

but I'd take a Roland Space Echo or an Echoplex were I to ever come
across a great deal for either..

I might get laughed out of here but the biggest surprise pedal I've got is the Dano mini pb&j delay. I've had it a number of years and its held up well and sounds incredible. The slap back is awesome and the longer delays even more so. It's a very organic delay and I love it. I'm curious about the Boss RE-20 as the space echo is the sound I really like but I don't want the hassle of maintaining one. The pb&j gives an approximation of the space echo sound (very non-digital sounding) on the cheap.

I just picked up a used memory man deluxe for $75 bucks. It's very warm and very very COOL! I owned a DL4 for a short period of time it was really versatile and had tap tempo, but i just didnt have the funds to keep it.

I've been using a Dan Echo for a while and have been *very* happy with it. I decided to try the Line6 Echo Park, and though I haven't had much chance to play with it, it seems pretty danged cool.

I took it to a jam with fellow TDPRI-ers this weekend and those who tried it said that the slapback effect is worth the price alone, and it has so many other different modes that I don't see how you can go wrong.

If you'd asked me a coouple of weeks ago I'd have said a boss dd3, but for sheer value & great tone Im absolutely blown away by the 1st act delay....its warm, it has vibe, & its cheap!Possibly the 2nd best purchase Ive ever made...(the 1st being a tele).

For analog, really WARM, "blooming" repeats, I love my Retro-Sonic Analog Delay, 600ms is always enough in my world. For a little clearer, but still warm, vintage sounding, but more in the tape realm, I love my Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. Fantastic "ambience" type delay. Two fantastic delays, better reliability and sound compared to the Replica, IMHO.

The sound clips for the Retro-Sonic delay sound great. I was interested in their chorus pedal a while back but they didn't have any sound clips at the time. That one sounds great too, but I think they have the depth set too high.

Honestly, for my money nothing beats (Or even comes close) to the sound of a tape delay. I love both the tube and solid state driven versions of the Echoplex, and the very expensive Fulltone Tube Tape Echo is a whole 'nother world.

For pedal type echos I love the Freakshow Digilog. It's digital, but it sounds like a great analog unit.

I have tape haunting my dreams!

I currently use three delays, two on a board, and one extra when I don't want to drag the board out. On the board is a DM-2 set mostly for slapback, and a DD-5 set for long delays and a footcontroller attached to do tap tempo. The dd-5 was my first delay pedal, and I actually hated it when I first got it. It sounded way too digital and ate batteries in about 30min requiring a power adaptor to be used. I had analogman mod it many years ago and now with the high cut mod, I actually really like the sound. My extra pedal is an old ibanez ad9, which is a bit brighter than the dm-2. I once owned an old echoplex, that sounded pretty funky but was a pain to use and was noisey. The pedals are just way easier to use. I've been tempted by some of the newer pedals out there to simplify my board. I'm interested in an older maxon ad900 or the retro-sonic delay. I have the retro-sonic chorus and think it is fantastic, especially since I'm not too much of a chorus fan to begin with. I would loose tap-tempo with the retro-sonic but I would gain 3 spots on my pedal board as it would cover both slap and long delays with the press of a button. The diamond memory lane pedal also looks good but it is a bit too pricy for me, as well as the t-rex. I think I would like the eh deluxe memory man but the thing is just physically too big. Alternatively, if I ever found the analogman delay in stock, I think I would grab it. All in all, I just like the older bucket brigade based designs. I'm glad a few companies are still making clones.

I love that tape echo sound, so probably will own an EPlex or space echo someday. In the meantime, the H&K Replex sounds so good I feel no urgency about investing in a tape unit. This is a digital unit, but you'd never know it from the sound. A real tube in here, and real tone. My main delay for years has been a Maxon AD 999. Love that warm analog sound. But now the Replex is number one ... I can't turn it off.

After much experimenting, I really love the Blackbox Quicksilver. It is very flexible, plus it has a "secret weapon"; an effects loop. Why you say? To add a compressor to the delay signal. It has two switchable channels for long and short delays. The compressor in the loop is what makes this thing sound like an old Echoplex. Love it. If you really want that big, expansive Edge or EJ tape echo sound, this is it.

My favorites (I like digital delays):

Line 6 DL-4 - holy-crap-everything-and-the-kitchen-sink delay. I love its looper more than anything though.
Boss DD-3 - almost the de-facto standard of compact delays (well, this or the DD-6 depending on how much time you need). Oh, and self-oscillation - sweet.
Boss GigaDelay - Warp. Nuff said.
Digitech Digidelay - hands down the best $100 you can spend on a new delay. It's not the best at any one thing (IMHO), but it does a good job at lots of things.
Danelectro Dan-Echo - my first delay pedal. God, I was (and am) in love with that analog warmth.

For once the hype is justified

I've had one of these for about 10 years, and it's my favorite delay. I'm kind of a delay freak, so I've owned and tried a ton. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
DOD FX9
DOD DFX90
Digitech PDS-1000
Digitech PDS-8000 rack
Boss DD-3
Memory man
Line 6 DL-4

Plus a bunch of multi effect rack units
Digitech Valve FX
Various Alesis units

On a budget, the Ibanez DE-7 is great.

Also, teh BBE two timer is a great clone of the DM-2.

i use both a ibanez ad9 and a boss dd2.
they are both great pedals, very good sounding and i use them as a slap back effect.
the ibanez is a bit darker as the boss dd2, which is also very warm sounding, though itīs a digital delay. i normaly use the ibanez delay for slower songs and fake steel bends and when it comes to a fast twanging, i use the boss delay. itīs hard to say, which is my favorite one....

i use the Ibanez AD-9 right now. These things actually sound good to me! I have an orignal Boss DM-2 the i love as well (more brighter than the AD-9)...dunno the AD-9 has a certain meat and potatoes yet really tight and focused kinda sound to it....both have good buffers btw to me as far as bypass tone goes etc... i am kinda seeing that even though these delays only go up to 300ms, they so easily compliment your actual sound that they are great for just creating some atmosphere to your true sound....which is all i look for or need

i have a dd-6 too for the digital needs....but try not to go down that road...personally speakin' of course
