halfmassive November 17th, 2007, 10:01 AM Hi all,
I am looking into starting an amp kit and am looking for a JTM45 type sound and was wondering if anyone can look at the weber JAVA kit layout and tell me if it would get me into the ballpark of a JTM45. It looks fairly similar minus a handful of features (bright channel, etc..). Here are the links to the 2 layouts:

I'm hoping someone with a little more knowledge and help me out
thanks!
JohnnyCrash November 17th, 2007, 12:05 PM The Java has a Master Volume. It looks like it may be a Post Phase Inverter, since its a stacked pot.
At first blush, it looks more high gain as well.
Didn't really look too long, but right off the bat, the Java is NOT very JTM45-ish.
P-Zilla November 17th, 2007, 12:33 PM I have to say if you want a JTM45 buy the Metro kit. It is money WELL spent.

Well, there you go.
Aint JTM45 by any means! HAHA
halfmassive November 17th, 2007, 06:40 PM Well looks like I learn something new every day. Do you guys think I can get by ordering a weber JTM45 kit and using their layout, plus the metroamp directions for the meto jtm45 as a guide? I'm hand with most stuff but this is my first amp and could use a small guide.
Also on webers layouts if there is a dotted line below the board does that mean it was solder from the back?
thanks for all the input
JimiBryant November 17th, 2007, 06:51 PM I had my reissue JTM45 modded by Don Butler (www.toneman.com)
and it's aces!!

Hi,
I built the Weber 6M45 as my very first amp as well (had been doing some amp-modding before, though), and I also only used the Weber layout and the Metro directions.
My amp didn't work perfectly right away, but the issues it had were only minor (like grounding wires soldered to the wrong lug, etc.), and could easily be solved with the great help from the very helpful people at the Weber kitbuilding forum (you can find my questions there when you look in the archives from spring this year, I'm using the same user name as here).
BTW, I didn't use the copper plate for grounding, but a star grounding scheme, used shielded wire for parts of the preamp section, and also made a few minor mods (like tightening up the bass response).
Now the amp sounds really great, very full and warm, I'm only using it for clean playing, though (kind of like a beefier Bassman), not for classic JTM45 crunch. It is very quiet, too!
Here's a pic of the finished amp:

- as you can see, I built the head cab myself (to save on shipping costs from the US to Europe).

- not the cleanest work, but hey, it was my first one, and I had to use some "jumpers" to fix mistakes
Oh, and, BTW, the dotted lines on the layout are connections made underneath the board; though the next time I build an amp, I'm going to do them on top, just like the rest - much easier to check whether everything's in the right spot...
halfmassive November 18th, 2007, 01:45 PM Thanks Roman!
After a long night of reading, searching and contenplating I decided to by a weber kit that was already built on ebay. It was not too much more than building the kit myself after I upgraded a few parts.
I like the amp head case you have! Very cool and custom. What is the cab I like that a lot too! I get tired of seeing the same old 2x12 marshall cabs - but I do love the bluesbreaker looking cabs - I just never see those in person.

That's an old German Hohner Orgaphon cab from the 1960s - I bought it for next to nothing because one of the speakers was broken. It is supposed to be a 2x12" cab, and also had two 12" aluminium-domed Pyle speakers in it, but the cut-outs on the baffle-board were only 10" in diameter; I widened one of them to 12" installed BeamBlockers, and mounted a 10" Eminence Legend 105 and a 12" Legend 121 in there. It is a closed-back cab, but even after the mods I did that 6M45 still has tons of bass, I removed the back to give it a more open quality.
