Open tunings in P&W

Anyone using open tunings in P&W with a Tele? I've recently really turned on to using it in that setting and have worked up a couple of sets of material I'm planning on performing using it in the next weeks and months.

I'm using open E, the Robert Johnson tuning used on Crossroads and Terraplane Blues and will have at least one Tele tuned full time that way for the indefinite future.

I use open E for a slide rendition of Amazing Grace,, occasionally GBDGBD for the more "old Timey" kinda stuff.

Very cool. I like the singing vocal like qualities you can bring out playing sacred melodies using the slide and that's one of the things that's really got my attention about it too. I've tried playing more slide in standard tuning but every time I come back to my open tuning using it it just feels so right.

I use a slide ALOT more in standard tuning on our worship team. It gives me verstility,,

I hate playing slide in standard tuning, it just seems wrong or unnatural. But sometimes there's no choice, especially if there's no time to switch guitars. I always thought that was one of the cool things about the Variax, alternate tunings. Never actually tried it though.

As far as using an open tuning in a worship setting goes, I doubt I'd ever try it, mostly because I'd have trouble playing all the songs that way. Also, I'm usually leading, so it's even harder to work in a guitar change without breaking the flow. I do miss playing open-tuned slide though.

When I am leading, I stay in standard tuning.
Or use a cut capo.
But when I get the chance to play lead guitar for other worship leaders,
I think its cool to tune to "G" or "E". Really a lot of fun when playing slide guitar.

Another thing is dedicating a fretting hand finger to the slide seems to take more away from what I normally do in standard tuning where I don't miss it as much in open E.

Are you guys normally just popping the slide on and off for the std tuning slide work there or keeping it on the whole time?

Our worship leader almost exclusively uses acoustics tuned to DADF#AD, and my strat is tuned the same way, and set up high and flat for slide. I use it once in a while when it is called for. I prefer the deeper, darker feel of open D to open E for slide.

I'd like to use my tele for slide but the action is really too low for effective slide use. I've tried open G and others on it for kicks, and it sounds great, but I'm not proficient enough with open chording to use those tunings on stage.
